The following article deals with the untimely death of a minor. If you knew the victim or find such details difficult to read, please know we have written this article with the utmost reverence and care.
The tragic death of a teenager at Icon Park in Orlando Florida has been determined to be human error. A ride expert claims that the teenager exceeded the maximum weight and was not correctly harnessed to the attraction. As a result, the teenager was thrown from the ride and quickly expired thereafter. It is important to recognize that the young man, Tyre Sampson, who passed away as a result of almost-certain human error had hopes, dreams and a full life ahead of him. It is truly a tragedy that his life has been lost to what appears to be carelessness.
From Fox News:
“It’s clear to anybody, not just ride safety engineers, that that boy was not harnessed properly,” WESH 2 News reports Bill Kitchen, president of U.S. Thrill Rides, said. “Not to ask him to step off or at least get him properly restrained was, it’s unforgivable. I can’t understand it.”
Confirmation from the manual that explains how to operate the attraction shows that the weight was exceeded. The rules for this are bolded in the operating manual. As a result, we expect Dollywood to reopen its similar free fall attraction. The Tennessee park had closed its ride to verify there was no defect in their similar attraction, made by the same company, after the death of the teenager in Florida.
That Park Place sends our deepest and most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Tyre Sampson. It grieves us to know that a day they expected to be so much fun was turned into a nightmare. It is a reminder to be good and kind to those you love. Some degree of restitution can occur in tragic situations, but a young life can never be recovered.
