That Park Place is not a political website. We take no joy in covering politics as a necessity because of the politicization of The Walt Disney Company, its policies, backlashes resulting, etc. This article is necessary on our site because it could directly impact Disney World operations.

The mess continues to grow with The Walt Disney Company’s strong politicization. Now Florida legislators are contemplating revoking Walt Disney World’s self-governing status that provides the resort with key strategic advantages that essentially no other theme park in the nation enjoys.

To understand the special status that Walt Disney World holds via the Reedy Creek Improvement Act, we are making the full text of the act available. To make it very concise (the actual text is very lengthy), Walt Disney World is essentially run by its own local government which is run by the Disney Company. This gives Disney World all the benefits you might imagine of having your own local government. Disney isn’t stuck with many local regulations that a normal theme park might face. Disney has special tax benefits by being its own government. Although it is unlikely that Florida would rescind the Reedy Creek District from Disney, we’re already in very unlikely territory with the way Disney has made such highly political positions public. That isn’t to defend either side in this conflict.

Writer WDW Pro will be providing commentary on the situation later today. In the meantime, remember That Park Place isĀ the place for all the latest on Disney news.
