You know, there are some really awful things happening in the world today. The Battle of Kiev and the reported attempts by Chechen guerrillas to kill Ukranian government officials is horrendous, likening back to the atrocities of World War II. The bombing of the thirteen Ukranian soldiers who stood their ground on Snake Island is a horrific act against utter heroism. So pardon me if I struggle to be as interested in Disney theme parks as usual and I’ll pardon you too. Still we need something to get our minds off of what we’re seeing in the news.
The videos are beginning to surface of what the experience is like aboard the Galactic Starcruiser. I could tell you they’re far worse than I had even imagined… and I had seen plenty before the rehearsals… but really, there’s not much need for commentary.
I’m sitting here with this strange dichotomy. On the one hand, I’m reading reports of people literally dying to protect their country from Russian invasion. I’m seeing videos of livestreams by soldiers as they give their lives to save their homes. And I’m simultaneously watching people do the Electric Slide awkwardly aboard a pretend space ship so that westerners will pay six thousand dollars to do the same.
The world is weird.
I’ll provide you with the videos of the Galactic Starcruiser so you can judge for yourself. Simultaneously, however, let’s remember what a privilege it is to live in a place where people can spend their time and money on such frivolous things, rather than spend their blood to defend their families huddled in a bombed-out basement. Let’s keep the perspective that while some are role-playing with make-believe aliens, we must never forget to do the right things in the real world that stop tyranny and abuse. Tell the truth, put things into order, and live every moment as if it matters. It probably does.
Here are the videos of what six thousand dollars will buy you near Hollywood Studios:

Nobody puts Ouannii in a corner.

Remember when I said “look up” months ago…?
The last evening of the Galactic Starcruiser experience has Rey board the ship to defeat Kylo Ren, who has taken over the structure. It involves a lot of pyrotechnics, acrobatics, and everything is above you so that guests have great views without ever being in the way. One of the problems is, however, that nobody really cares that much about Rey defeating Kylo Ren. Sure, there are some fans of those characters, but they’re not enough to sustain the thing.
Here’s that in action:
A look at Rey igniting and then swapping out the "real" lightsaber aboard the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

The world is on fire, but maybe the videos of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser provide us a little levity today. Perhaps all of this reminds us of what is really important. Here’s to a future where we can focus on things like theme parks and entertainment because wars are in a galaxy far, far away… not at the doorsteps of those we care about.
Best regards, and thoughts and prayers for all those in danger in Ukraine.

Events lately really put things in perspective and show a bit how out of touch many people have become from reality. I don’t believe people in the United States really realize how good we have it.
The beauty of the original Star Wars was there were people that’d been to Vietnam, like Gary Kurtz, that kept it grounded and relatable. Some of the people (Story Group) that are creating things like Galaxies Edge, publishing, and the Star Cruiser seem to have grown up very detached from the reality a majority of the planet’s population have to live in. Which is the reason a whole lot of fans cannot relate to the content they are putting out.
Well said.
Ukraine is placing this in perspective – a week ago, I would have been critical…now, I embrace the opinions mentioned in the video review by DFBGuide. (It’s well balanced). Per the review, unless Disney changes things based on feedback, it’s best for those that love escape rooms, games, murder mystery dinners – it’s a lot of involvement. If one wants to relax, and just experience Star Wars, unless $6000 is fun spending cash, it might now feel worth the price. Based on that, it’s not for me. Regardless, I hope Disney listens to feedback, and be willing to invest a lot, if needed for refurbishment.
