George Lucas, the visionary behind Star Wars, Indiana Jones, American Graffiti, and THX 1138, is scheduled to appear at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. This marks the first time Lucas will take the stage at the iconic event, even though his creative work has shaped fan conventions for nearly five decades.

He is set to headline a panel titled “Sneak Peek at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art,” which will take place on Sunday, July 27th, in Hall H.

Several notable figures in film and design will join Lucas on stage. Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and Lucasfilm executive Doug Chiang—who has worked extensively on The Mandalorian and Star Wars prequels—will be there. Actress and producer Queen Latifah will moderate the panel.

The upcoming panel plans to explore the upcoming museum and the role of visual storytelling in culture. Lucas and fellow-panelists plan to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the development of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, including its curatorial choices, exhibition themes, and the artistic works selected for display. Additionally the panel will discuss the power of storytelling across various forms of media. They will explore how narrative art connects people, reflects broader societal themes, and shapes cultural discourse. This panel promises to deliver a rare combination of creative insight and cultural reflection.

The Lucas Film Museum of Narrative Art will explore storytelling across visual media, including film, comics, photography, painting, and digital art. It aims to highlight how narrative shapes culture and influences how people see the world. The George Lucas Comic-Con panel will provide early insight into the museum’s mission, curation process, and featured works, offering fans a rare opportunity to hear directly from its founder and creative team. The museum, located in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park, is set to open in 2026.

Coming Full Circle

Although Star Wars debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in 1976 with a modest slideshow presentation, George Lucas has never previously spoken on stage at the convention. Organizers have called this appearance a “full-circle moment” for both Lucas and the fan community. His legacy is deeply embedded in the history of Comic-Con, where the rise of modern fandom owes much to the early promotion and grassroots excitement surrounding his films.

In many ways, this panel is both a celebration of the past and a look forward. It highlights Lucas’s long-standing impact on narrative art and his continuing efforts to champion creativity. For fans, the discussion promises meaningful reflection as well as new perspectives on how stories influence society and connect generations.

Lucasfilm’s ties to Comic-Con stretch back nearly five decades. After the original Star Wars promotion in 1976, the franchise became a regular part of the event’s programming. The convention helped solidify Lucas’s work within pop culture, and fans have embraced that relationship ever since. Now, with Lucas attending in person, the connection comes full circle.

Or some vegetables thrown towards the stage like the good ole saloon days. One trick pony sellout. Enjoy your billions in the North bay.
