Godzilla Minus One shook the Thursday night preview box office coming in second place behind Beyoncé’s Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, who took the top spot at the box office.

As reported by The-Numbers, Godzilla Minus One grossed $2.1 million at the Thursday previews box office, which also included afternoon and evening showings on Wednesday. Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé grossed $5 million, while Napoleon took in $1.1 million.
Lionsgate has yet to release numbers for The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Disney has also not released numbers for The Marvels and Wish.

Box office tracking website Box Office Pro originally predicted in the beginning of November that the film would gross between $5 million and $9 million in its opening weekend and go on to gross between $9 million and $18 million in its entire domestic run.
More recently they predicted the film would have an opening weekend gross of $8.1 million as the film opened in approximately 2,300 theaters nationwide.
Given the $2.1 million Thursday night preview gross, it looks like Godzilla Minus One is well on its way to stomping the projections from Box Office Pro.

The film does appear to have good word of mouth going for it. It currently has an overwhelmingly positive Rotten Tomatoes score of 96 from the critics. Critics gave the film an average rating of 8.1 out of 10 with 48 fresh reviews and only two negative reviews.
The film has a 100% Tomatometer rating from Top Critics with an average score of 7.8 out of 10. There are 14 fresh reviews and zero rotten reviews.
Godzilla Minus One also has a 97% audience score on both the verified audience and the all audience score. The average rating for the film is 4.8 out of 5.

Over on IMDb, the film currently has a rating of 8.4 out of 10 with over 40% of reviewers giving the film a perfect 10 out of 10.

At Metacritic the film has a Metascore of 80 from critics and an 8.8 user score.

That Park Place contributor Culture Casino also had high praise for the film in his review.
He stated, “It really reaches down to the heart of what a monster movie is supposed to be. At just over two hours the film is very well paced and it uses its screen time wisely, building a world in a very familiar way during a very sad point in history.”
Culture Casino added, “Anybody going to see this is going to enjoy themselves. Now, is it a perfect move? No. But it’s crazy fun. It’s stupid fun at times and it also has a lot of heart. There’s a lot of emotion in it.”
