YouTube personality Grace Randolph has received significant backlash for comments made after the recent controversy at the BAFTAs. The most recent attempt to address the situation has resulted in Randolph’s video being ratioed, receiving more downvotes than upvotes. It’s a clear metric that shows her audience is not on board with her opinions.

Backlash Builds After Livestream Remarks

During a livestream of her show Beyond The Trailer, Randolph asserted that Tourette’s advocate John Davidson—who is afflicted with the condition—spoke his unfiltered opinions when he shouted racial slurs during the awards ceremony. Despite fact checks and a community note on X, Randolph continued to defend her position across her social media accounts and criticized what she called Davidson’s “intentional lack of an apology.”

She even accused fellow YouTuber Nerdrotic and others of attempting to use Davidson’s uncontrollable outburst to “promote their own hate and biases.” Many commentators accused Randolph of attempting to deflect the criticism directed at her and avoid the substance of her arguments.

Now, her critics are accusing Randolph of attempting to reframe the argument—and the ratio on her latest video shows that they are not alone.

He “Created the Opportunity”

In the now-ratioed video, Randolph admitted that she has no expertise in Davidson’s condition. She characterized her lack of knowledge as an American issue, saying, “It turns out we don’t know anything about Tourette’s over here.” Later, she added, “There has been zero education about Tourette’s here in the United States.”

While Randolph appeared to be speaking about public familiarity rather than institutional resources, many of the Community Notes on X had already pointed out that the U.S. Federal government has an entire page on the CDC website explaining Tourette’s.

Randolph then addressed the wave of criticism she has received online. “I was tweeting about it earlier today and people said some of the most disgusting stuff about me,” she said. “They were just looking at it as an excuse to say something bad about me.” Continuing, she added, “Mr. Davidson needs to realize that he created the opportunity for that, and so that’s really really bad.”

The phrase “created the opportunity” has only increased the backlash.

Engagement Metrics Tell the Story

Visible engagement metrics suggest overwhelmingly negative reactions to Randolph’s video. A screen capture shows roughly 1.3K likes to 2.6K dislikes, indicating a steep ratio.

The open comments section also reflects significant pushback.

One user, happychappy3697, challenged Randolph’s assertion that Americans are widely uninformed about the condition, writing: “Who’s we? You don’t know about something so everybody doesn’t know.”

Others objected to her characterization of Davidson. A user with the handle davidbriceno2759 wrote: “This woman has no grace or tolerance, chastising and stigmatizing a person with tourette [sp] for doing something that they can’t control when they have suffered through out their life because of their condition, is extremely vile and stupid..”

No Sign of Cooling Off

Whatever Randolph’s intentions, the discourse around the BAFTAs and her comments shows no sign of cooling off. Implying that Davidson “created the opportunity” for people to attack her has only intensified an already heated issue, and the ratio—nearly double the dislikes to likes—has become a visible referendum on her framing of the situation. As the video continues circulating online, how she responds next remains an open question.
