Jokes about things happening “before the release of Grand Theft Auto VI” may soon need a new subject.
Rockstar has released the launch trailer for its long-awaited open-world game, which arrives November 19. Running roughly a minute and a half, it showcases the sprawling setting while offering more background on protagonists Jason and Lucia. Naturally, there is also plenty of the action and chaotic mayhem fans expect.

Notably, PlayStation’s YouTube comments appear more focused on the game than demands of “No disc, no buy.” Anticipation seems strong enough to keep Sony’s recent controversies from dominating the conversation.
GTA VI Launch Trailer Explores Jason’s Past
The latest trailer opens with Jason explaining in voiceover that he got into trouble in the Army and left on bad terms.
“They don’t give loans or anything to people like me,” he adds.
After Jason receives a call from Lucia, who appears to be preparing to leave prison, the trailer kicks into high gear.
Vice City and its surrounding Florida-inspired landscape are presented as a tropical paradise, albeit one filled with opportunities for criminal activity. Justice’s ’80s-style track “Flower in a Hurricane” provides the soundtrack.

Jason also appears in military gear, although it is unclear whether these scenes depict his past or equipment used during later missions.
Meanwhile, the action extends well beyond street-level shootouts. Swamp boats, customized street racers, and airplanes all feature in the vehicular mayhem, suggesting plenty of ways to explore the setting and cause trouble.
Jason and Lucia’s Relationship Takes Center Stage
Reports have suggested that both protagonists will be heavily customizable, with gameplay choices also influencing their appearances. Those claims include the ability to determine what Jason and Lucia eat and how much time they spend at the gym.
Their changing looks throughout the trailer offer a possible glimpse of those systems, although the footage alone does not establish how they work.
Beyond their appearances, the trailer emphasizes the relationship between Jason and Lucia. Scenes of the couple committing crimes sit alongside more intimate and playful moments, giving their partnership some personality beyond its criminal pursuits.

“Are we going to be okay?” a worried Lucia asks.
“We stuck together through everything,” Jason answers. “Just got to get through it.”
The exchange suggests that staying together will be as central to their story as surviving the consequences of their actions.
November 19 Release Brings the Long Wait Closer to an End
Although the PlayStation version of the trailer prominently features Sony’s branding, Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC release date.

Online reactions reflect the anticipation surrounding the latest installment, with fans expressing excitement while continuing to joke about its repeated delays. The apparent scale of the world and the attention given to Jason and Lucia are also drawing interest.
For Rockstar, the remaining challenge is turning that anticipation into a game that justifies the wait. A sprawling map and spectacular action can attract attention, but players will ultimately judge how those elements come together once they have the controller. Jason and Lucia’s relationship gives the chaos a personal stake, potentially providing a reason to care beyond the next robbery or high-speed chase. With November 19 approaching, the conversation is finally moving toward what players will actually experience. Soon, the longest-running joke surrounding GTA VI may simply be how long everyone waited.
