Halo Bucks the Trend with PRIDE Cosmetics While r/Halo Subreddit Bans Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month Posts

Halo is once again participating in PRIDE month for 2025 while Reddit mods ban users for acknowledging any other themed month for June.

As June begins, a noticeable shift has taken place across the United States. Many companies that previously launched PRIDE Month campaigns with splashy cosmetics, rainbow-themed branding, and celebratory posts have gone silent. Ubisoft, Target, Starbucks, Disney, and others—companies that, in past years, would immediately swap their social media banners or offer limited-time PRIDE content—have so far stayed quiet.

One major exception, however, is the Xbox exclusive Halo.

On June ist, the official Halo account posted a PRIDE Month message to its X page, encouraging players to unlock themed content in Halo Infinite. The post has disabled comments.

“This #PrideMonth, we celebrate love, diversity, and the freedom to be yourself,” the company wrote. “Log in to Halo Infinite this month to unlock the Unity coating, visor, and emblem, and wear them with pride.”

While the post marks a clear acknowledgement of PRIDE, the tone this year is notably more subdued than the game’s post on June 1, 2024, which also disabled comments.

This year’s post makes no mention of specific communities and avoids direct references entirely. In addition, the Halo X account has not updated its profile picture or banner to reflect PRIDE Month—details that were once standard in June marketing pushes across gaming and entertainment brands.

A separate and growing controversy has erupted within the Halo community surrounding PRIDE. The r/Halo subreddit—a fan-moderated page unaffiliated with Microsoft or 343 Industries—is reportedly banning users who reference June as Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

A post now circulating widely on social media shows a user who claims they were permanently banned from r/Halo for posting “Happy Men’s Awareness Month.” The screenshot shows the user was banned for violating subreddit rules, though no specific rule was cited. The message includes the standard Reddit admin warning about avoiding ban evasion.

This moderation decision has triggered outrage among some players, particularly those who see mental health awareness for men as an important cause—especially in a gaming space where male users represent the overwhelming majority. The notion that mentioning men’s mental health could result in a ban, while PRIDE posts are actively promoted, has struck a nerve.

Notably, other companies have chosen a different path in 2025. Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege account opened June not with PRIDE messaging, but instead by highlighting Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

“It’s okay to take off the mask,” they said. “Strength and vulnerability are not mutually exclusive. June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. We’d like to encourage you to reach out to your friends; ask them how they’re doing. Pick up a game together. Look out for one another. You matter.”

The Rainbow Six post made no mention of PRIDE at all—a sharp contrast from Ubisoft’s previous campaigns, which have included cosmetics, developer statements, and employee-led initiatives under its UbiProud banner.

The difference between Ubisoft’s messaging, Halo’s more cautious tone, and r/Halo’s aggressive moderation reflects a broader conversation happening across the industry: Can awareness campaigns for PRIDE and men’s mental health coexist during June? Or are they increasingly seen as mutually exclusive or opposing forces in online spaces?

As the month unfolds, the contrast between corporate messaging, community moderation, and fan expectations may continue to spark debate—and perhaps more stories like this one.

I am prideful as well – to say that I have not purchased anything from Microsoft for quite some time. Not giving money to such degenerate nonsense.
