Even after a hurricane comes through, there’s still enough magic to celebrate the beginning of the next chapter for Disney’s park about the future of us!

Possibly Disney’s most ambitious and unique theme parks is turning forty today. It’s not exactly what Walt Disney had in mind and its journey has been anything but difficult, but somehow Epcot continues to stand out as distinctly Walt Disney World. Perhaps not even Magic Kingdom rings so true as a beacon of what Walt Disney World in Florida can, could or should be.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, the park has one-day merchandise available. The line has already extended around the park and is ridiculous. You’d never know a hurricane swept through a couple of days ago. Epcot’s background music has also been switched to the original music played in the background for opening day forty years ago. You can listen to it here:

And if you’re wishing you were at Epcot on the 40th anniversary, we’d like to highlight this YouTuber: Florida Park Explorers:

Beyond food, merchandise and background music, there is a small commemoration planned for The American Pavilion at 11:00 AM EST. No special tag is planned for Harmonious and there doesn’t seem to be a Figment meet and greet around at the moment. We’ll let you know if that changes or anything new comes about.

So what do you think? Are you excited for Epcot’s future or do you long for its past? Let us know in the comments below. As always, keep reading That Park Place for all the latest news that should be fun!
