Harrison Ford Films Little for Indiana Jones 5 Though Improving

When Indiana Jones 5 is finally in theaters, it is going to be the miracle of all miracle films to actually make it to final product. I still can’t condone James Mangold’s behavior in which he railed against fans for twelve straight hours on Twitter, nor can I condone the way in which he and his associates have tried to reframe the issue. Sometimes you just need to own up to a mistake and say “my bad.” But that doesn’t change the gargantuan lift the entire crew is making to get this film finished.

I’m pulling for Harrison Ford. How can you not at this point? The man is 79 years old, still out there working his butt off to get back into the film that already injured him so badly he had to be placed in a sling and kicked out of filming for weeks on end. Sources say that although Mr. Ford was unable to film for most of scenes in Scotland (CGI will be used to put his face on other actors), he did end up doing limited filming with green screens in the last few days. Now that filming has ended there, it’s on to new locations, although we’re getting conflicting reports that the film may delay next steps for three months while Ford recovers.

Unfortunately, because Ford was unable to complete much of the Scotland filming, stunt doubles and replacement actors were used to in his stead. We can see an example of such work in a still shot of Ford’s (much younger) stunt double atop a horse. The scene is from an action sequence set in the Apollo 11 celebration parade.

We believe that is Hollywood stuntman Mike Massa, who was recently hired to play Ford in the movie for action sequences until Ford is able to perform any stunts at all. It may be that Indiana Jones 5 simply features little of Harrison Ford in actuality… and perhaps that’s the necessity of the show having to go on. Probably gone are the days of Kathleen Kennedy joyously bouncing around the set as Ford took the reins of Indy once more. Nowadays, it seems the production is a scotch tape and bandage operation of doing whatever it takes to convince audiences it’s really Harrison Ford on the screen.

So that’s where Indiana Jones 5 stands at the moment. Let us know what you think in the comments below – are you excited for the next adventure with Dr. Jones? Or are you of the opinion it should have stopped with the original trilogy? Personally, I’m hoping for a great Indiana Jones 5, if for no other reason that the level of difficulty they’ve had in making this film!
