Many had wondered what happened to one of the biggest names working on a very big game for 2023. Now, good news has come from a recent retiree!
The culture war can be a real pain sometimes. In the case of Hogwarts Legacy, one casualty of the battle between the societal philosophies was the lead designer for the big Harry Potter game. Troy Leavitt dropped from one of the most anticipated games of the year after a spat over his positions on sociocultural issues was brought up by a contingency of the fandom. Now, he’s shared his reasons for leaving the game that will be heavily influenced by his decision-making.
Responding to a video by YouTuber and social media star, Melonie Mac, the video game guru gave the following explanation for what happened:
Thank you for the video!
19:15 I left because I was already dealing with some issues involving my family that I had moved from Utah to Nevada for. I had even retired just six months before for this very reason, but Avalanche (the developer of the game) asked me to continue working remote and out of state.
When these stories dropped about my old YouTube channel, it put a lot of pressure on me both at home and at the workplace. So, I decided to “jump on my own grenade,” take pressure off the studio and focus on those family issues instead. I voluntarily re-retired.
Since then, things with my family greatly improved. So now I’ve been playing lots of video games and cheerleading Hogwarts Legacy’s coming release! It’s going to be great!
It sounds as though Mr. Leavitt is having an excellent start to his retirement, even if there was a bit of a kerfuffle in the process of getting to that point. We here at That Park Place wish him the very best and a happy encore stage in life.
