The following article is original reporting based on That Park Place reporters on the ground at Walt Disney World:
The Walt Disney Company has been embroiled in conflict over the past month, taking criticism from liberals, conservatives, and everyone in between. Rumors are swirling that Disney may have a net loss of more than 350,000 subscribers on Disney+ in the past three weeks. Yet somehow Walt Disney World is crowded beyond belief. Yesterday, Hollywood Studios had wait times for most rides above two-hours and Genie+ is so overwhelmed that guests can only expect to skip 2-3 attractions per day. So what gives? Why is Disney under fire but Disney World is humming right along with crushing crowds, even with torrential rains and cold weather?
Well, that’s why you come to That Park Place, right? To know the real information you won’t get anywhere else.
The reason for the humongous crowds at Walt Disney World are not what you might have imagined. Would you believe that if you go to Disney today, you’re likely to hear far more British accents than you have in the past? That’s right, a significant percentage of Disney World guests today are coming from across the pond, eager to take their little ones to the biggest theme park resort in the world after a pandemic that crippled international travel.
Thank you @British_Airways for the love, care and attention you gave to my customers this morning. The issues of Florida politics are far from the minds of British tourists tired of being stuck on their beautiful island. And even if the weather is distinctly un-Florida-esque at the moment, they’ve been waiting a long, long time to take their little ones all around WDW. So while you may be bewildered how there could possibly be massive crowds at Disney World at at time when prices are going up, conflict is rising, and appreciation for the House of Mouse is going down, just remember that international travelers are finally getting the opportunity to do their once-a-generation big trip to Disney World.
FAQ for British Travelers Going to Disney World
So if you’re in the parks over the next weeks or months and you can’t believe the crowds, just remember that those non-American accents are often from families that have done much to arrive in the Sunshine State. Be extra kind and recall that some things transcend the conflicts of the day. And one of those is a child from Whales or London or Glasgow getting to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and hug Mickey Mouse. In that light, it’s understandable that there would be crowds at this bizarre time… and that it would be wise to be kind to those who spent a pretty penny to bring their children to a place they have memories of from when they were a child themselves.
i just look forward to a time when Disney will be out of conflicts so everyone else can enjoy it in the same way once more. Disney should be a place where politics and modern sociocultural movements take a break.
