Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch 2 on May 12, 2026, according to announcements from Bethesda Softworks and developer MachineGames. The release date was confirmed during a Nintendo Direct presentation that focused on upcoming third‑party titles confirmed for the platform. This presentation also provided schedules and release windows for several other games expected on the system.

The game originally launched on Windows and Xbox Series X/S in December 2024. A PlayStation 5 version followed in April 2025. The Switch 2 release will mark the first time the game has appeared on Nintendo hardware.

Narrative Setting and Scope

Official information describes the story as taking place in 1937, placing the game’s events between the films Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Players assume the role of archaeologist Indiana Jones, who begins to unravel a mystery tied to a powerful and ancient force known as the Great Circle. As the story unfolds, Jones travels to a number of international locations connected by the trail of this mystery.

Story scenes send players to environments inspired by Vatican City, ancient Egyptian ruins, and jungle regions in Southeast Asia. Each location contributes to advancing the narrative, and players alternate between structured story segments and sections that allow broader exploration. This combination of narrative and freer exploration is consistent with other editions of the game.

Gameplay Elements and Mechanics

Gameplay revolves around exploration, environmental problem solving, and combat encounters. A defining tool in the gameplay is Indiana Jones’s whip. Players can use the whip to traverse gaps, interact with environmental objects, and support combat. In addition to whip mechanics, the game includes stealth options, hand‑to‑hand combat, and limited use of ranged weapons.

Environmental puzzles that involve object interaction and terrain navigation are embedded throughout key areas in the game world. Combat encounters range from brief skirmishes to larger fights that require a balance of stealth and direct engagement.

Physical and Digital Editions

Bethesda has confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released on a physical Nintendo Switch 2 game card. The cartridge contains the game data instead of serving only as a download key. This method reflects a trend among some recent third‑party Switch 2 physical releases that place full data on the card.

Both physical and digital editions will be available when the game launches. Pre‑orders are currently open through the Nintendo eShop and participating retailers. Pricing is expected to match that of other major third‑party releases on the system and may vary by region and retailer.

Development and Broader Platform Context

MachineGames developed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, with Todd Howard serving as executive producer. The studio is known for its work on the modern Wolfenstein series. Lucasfilm Games collaborated on the project to align the game with the franchise’s continuity.

The Switch 2 announcement was part of a larger slate of third‑party titles confirmed for 2026. Other confirmed games include updated editions of established Bethesda properties such as Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. This broader lineup reflects third‑party publisher support for Nintendo’s newest hardware.

At the time of the announcement, Nintendo and Bethesda have not yet released detailed technical specifications for the Switch 2 version, including resolution and performance targets.
