Fans of Marvel’s most popular mutant may not have to wait much longer. According to multiple industry insiders, Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine game is finally ready to step back into the spotlight with a brand-new trailer.

A Wolverine Game Trailer Years in the Making

When Insomniac first unveiled Marvel’s Wolverine at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase, the teaser trailer was little more than a cinematic mood piece: Logan at a bar, claws out, promising something darker than the Spider-Man titles the studio is known for. Since then, the project has been shrouded in silence, leaving fans wondering when they’d see more.

That silence may soon be broken. Insider Gaming reports that a trailer has been completed and is lined up for Sony’s next PlayStation State of Play presentation, which is expected before the end of September. Gamereactor backed the claim, saying the trailer is locked and ready for prime time. ComicBook.com added that if Sony holds off, The Game Awards in December would be the next likely venue. Either way, the claws are coming out.

Why Now?

Insomniac has had a packed slate. The studio delivered Spider-Man 2 in late 2023, a divisive title hit that failed to meet the critical acclaim of its popular predecessor, and many surmise the studio is already at work on Spider-Man 3. But reports of staffing shifts and leaked internal roadmaps suggested Wolverine was further along than many believed.

A finished trailer at this stage means the game is progressing toward a showcase window. While the studio remains cagey about release dates, documents leaked during the 2023 ransomware attack hinted at a potential launch sometime in 2026. That would line up with Sony’s need to keep the PlayStation 5 pipeline flowing as it enters the latter half of its life cycle.

What We Know About the Game

Insomniac has kept official details scarce, but here’s what’s been pieced together so far:

  • Tone and Style: Early commentary from developers hinted at a more mature, violent narrative compared to the Spider-Man games.
  • Creative Talent: Marcus Smith (Sunset Overdrive) and Mike Daly (Ratchet & Clank) are attached to direct, bringing veteran Insomniac voices into the project.
  • PS5 Exclusive: Like Spider-Man, this game is built specifically for Sony’s hardware, promising to push the console’s technical limits.

For Marvel fans, that mix suggests a story faithful to Logan’s roots—gritty, bloody, and uncompromising. However, leftover fears after Spider-Man 2’s divisive dive into identity politics persist.

The Bigger Picture for PlayStation

If Wolverine does land at State of Play this month, it will be a much-needed shot in the arm for Sony’s lineup. PlayStation has faced growing criticism for leaning heavily on live-service experiments while delaying core single-player experiences.

A blockbuster Wolverine trailer could re-center the brand on what players actually want: cinematic, character-driven titles that make the PS5 worth owning.

Final Thoughts

It’s been four years since Insomniac first teased Wolverine. With insiders all pointing to a completed. Wolverine game trailer, the wait may finally be over. Whether at State of Play or The Game Awards, Logan’s return looks closer than ever—and this time, we may finally see his claws in action.

Do you think we’ll see the Wolverine game trailer at Sony’s next State of Play? Do you have any hope for this game after Spider-Man 2? Sound off in the comments and let us know!

once were wombles

This article leads to more questions than answers. Who is the “big bad”? Will it have comic references or just what we’ve seen in other movies. How woke will it be?

I want to look forward to this, but Sony and Insomniac have burned most of the good will I’ve given them. I don’t trust them. It is going to take a lot of work to win me back and I’m not in the mood to meet them halfway.
