Editor’s Note: Inventing Anna beat The Book of Boba Fett’s finale — a show with a hundred million dollar budget — with its blockbuster ratings according to Nielsen. We take a look at what it is that is driving such interest in this comparatively small series.
My family got together to celebrate my wife’s and daughter’s birthdays when conversation led to what we were watching on Netflix, Paramount +, Amazon Prime and HULU. Intrigued by the conversation taking place between my older sister and older brother about Inventing Anna on Netflix, I decided to check it out for myself.
What’s It About?
This 9-part limited series is a story about Anna Sorokin, aka Anna Delvey. Netflix admits before each episode that plenty of facts are displayed while some fiction is mixed in to tell her story. Anna is played by Ozark‘s Julia Garner (Ruth). Her story is one in which she convinces and tricks the elites of Manhattan into thinking that she is an heiress worth over $60 million.
Vivian Kent is a character in the series playing the actual journalist, Jessica Pressler of New York magazine. She wrote a major piece on Sorokin close to the time of the trial. She wrote on how Anna had attempted to create an “over the top” arts foundation where only the elites could be members.
How It All Fell Apart
Taking a trip to Marrakech, because Anna knew her story was falling apart, her friend “Rachel” joins her. Anna has no way of paying for anything. She always has to have money wired. In reality, she never has any money wired. Asking Rachel to use her company credit card to cover the expenses, Anna promises to repay when the money is wired to her account. The money never gets wired and Rachel frets over the $70,000 bill. Rachel is forced to tell her boss the reason for the huge company cost on the card.

Where’s Anna Now?
According to a Google search:
After six weeks of parole, she was taken into federal custody for overstaying her visa. Now, she is still in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention at Orange County Correctional Facility in NY, where she is fighting deportation from Germany.
Quick Update:
She is being deported to Germany. According to Zoe Papadakis of NEWSMAX:
Anna “Delvey” Sorokin, the fake heiress who was jailed after she famously scammed hundreds of thousands of dollars from hotels, banks and New York’s elites, and who inspired the hit Netflix series “Inventing Anna,” was set to be deported back to Germany this week, according to multiple reports.
AFP reported that Sorokin was to be extradited to Germany on Monday. The texting app that allows for communication with inmates at the correctional facility where Sorokin was being held noted that she had been released from its custody, according to The New York Times. Friends confirmed her deportation to the outlet.Â
“I was chatting with her this morning,” Blake Cummings, who ran her Instagram account while she was in detention told the Times on Monday morning. “She didn’t expect this.”
Sorokin’s attorney, Manny Arora, told NBC News that he had not been able to contact her on Monday afternoon.
“Legally, they should not be able to deport her until the 19th. That is due to the deportation order being signed on February 17 and that allows us to have 30 days to file an appeal,” Arora said in a statement. “But we are dealing with bureaucracy, and there are numerous filings in her case so you just never know if there was a paperwork error. I haven’t heard from Miss Sorokin this afternoon, and so I am working under the presumption that she is being deported.”
What Are Your Thoughts?
Share with me your thoughts on the limited series or if you have plans to watch. I’d love to have some dialogue on the person dealt the slight of hand.
Be blessed and happy streaming!!!
