Is Amazon Punishing Those Who Reviewed “Rings of Power” Poorly?

LOTR: The Rings of Power teaser credit prime video

We’ve been seeing reports of Amazon issues for those who didn’t like Rings of Power and now wish to continue to leave reviews on other products.

Yesterday, we received word from a reader about how they were experiencing some odd issues with their Amazon account. After attempting unsuccessfully to post a Rings of Power review months ago, they’ve found that they’re completely locked out of reviewing items throughout the Amazon platform. We’ve heard of similar issues, but we’ve never been able to corroborate them.

Here’s the offending original Rings of Power review from the reader:

The problems with Rings of Power flow from the terrible writing. The prolog (with Galadriel as a child) contains some of the most pretentious dialog ever shown on screen. This is followed up with a confusing introduction that made no sense. I have read the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit but have not read any of the prequel material. The introduction might have made sense if I had read this other material. On the other hand, Lord of the Rings devotees claim the show does not follow Tolkien.
After the prolog we are introduced to the adult Galadriel. Galadriel in The Rings of Power is nothing like the Galadriel of the Lord of the Rings. Unlike a Mary Sue, she is so obnoxious few people can stand her. Like a Mary Sue, this Galadriel is superpowered. Seven male elves take on a troll and are swatted like flies but in comes Galadriel and she single handedly takes down the troll.
Galadriel is so offensive that the chief elf sends her away across the ocean. Mid-voyage Galadriel decides she does not want to go, so she jumps off the boat into the middle of the ocean. I have to imagine that Galadriel’s plot armor will cause a boat to pick her up in the next episode because that is what usually happens when you jump into the middle of the ocean.
We are also introduced to the Harfoots (aka Hobbits) who are equally obnoxious. They are Irish stereotypes, complete with accent. There was another boring elf–human interaction subplot.
On the positive side, the overall production values are generally pretty good. However, there is some dubious CGI that one would expect to be better on the kind of budget here and the CGI tends to be static.
All of this is for naught because plot is nonsensical and the dialog is dreadful. The Rings of Power is an Ed Wood script with a Marvel budget.
The inane pre-release promotion of The Rings of Power accurately portended disaster.
Now it doesn’t appear to us that there’s anything awful in that review which should garner disdain from Amazon and cause them to strike the ability to review further.
But according to John, that review didn’t go over so well:
“I have had an amazon prime account for years. I have reviewed maybe 100 films on prime video and many books. I did a review for Rings of Power. Then I got an email saying my review was rejected for not conforming to Amazon guidelines. A week later I got an email saying I am banned for no conforming to Amazon guidelines and all my reviews on Amazon have been pulled.”
It is our hope that similar situations for others will be quickly resolved and that Amazon will not punish users for negative reviews of The Rings of Power. Surely this is just a mix-up that can quickly be resolved!
We’ll let you know if things change for John. And don’t forget that if you come across newsworthy information, we are always happy to receive it from our fantastic readers, viewers and fans.
