As Ironheart racks up dislikes on YouTube ahead of its premiere this June, one burning question is capturing fans’ attention more than ever: is Sacha Baron Cohen playing Mephisto in the MCU?
The long-rumored debut of the Marvel Comics demon has been teased for years, from WandaVision to Agatha All Along. But now, with credible reports, casting clues, and even a supposed leaked teaser swirling online, speculation is hitting a fever pitch.
The “Mystery Man” Credit and the Deadline Report
Let’s start with the verifiable facts. Sacha Baron Cohen is officially part of the Ironheart cast. That was confirmed in Marvel Studios’ September 21, 2023 filing with the U.S. Copyright Office, where he’s listed as “Mystery Man”—a placeholder title often used to conceal a character’s true identity.

Why the secrecy? Back in October 2022, Deadline reported that Cohen was “likely playing Mephisto,” citing insider sources. While Marvel hasn’t confirmed this, Cohen’s role is said to appear in the latter half of the series, potentially setting him up for larger appearances in future MCU projects.
Mephisto’s Magic Connection to The Hood
Ironheart follows Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) returning home to Chicago after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. There, she crosses paths with Parker Robbins—aka The Hood—played by Anthony Ramos. In the comics, Robbins’ powers come directly from Mephisto, a demonic figure who trades power for loyalty.

The first trailer for Ironheart gives fans a glimpse of Robbins’ transformation, showcasing his enchanted cloak, glowing veins, and eerie magical effects. It doesn’t name Mephisto outright, but the visual cues lean heavily toward a supernatural source—and for many Marvel fans, all signs point to Mephisto.
What Marvel Has—and Hasn’t—Said
Marvel TV executive Brad Winderbaum was asked directly about Mephisto during the Phase Hero podcast in November 2024.
“I wish I could tell you,” he said.

Classic Marvel non-answer, but telling in its own way.
Rumors intensified after Agatha All Along finally mentioned Mephisto by name, marking his first official reference in MCU continuity. Still, the character has never appeared on screen—despite years of teasing.
The Leaked Teaser, Google Cast List, and Online Speculation
A new layer to the mystery emerged recently with a supposed leaked Ironheart teaser.

The clip, which surfaced on social media, appears to show Sacha Baron Cohen in a devilish role at the end. Its authenticity can’t be confirmed, but it’s been enough to reignite speculation online. It’s entirely possible that this clip making the rounds is some kind of AI fabrication. Without direct confirmation from Marvel we can’t know for sure.

Google listing for the Ironheart cast, which lists Sacha Baron Cohen as Mephisto – Google
Further fanning the flames, Google’s cast listing for Ironheart now includes Sacha Baron Cohen as Mephisto. While this could be an error or placeholder, fans are taking note. However, it should be noted that IMDb does not list the same credit.
Who Is Mephisto?
For those less familiar, Mephisto is one of Marvel’s most iconic and sinister villains. First introduced in Silver Surfer #3 (1968), Mephisto is essentially the Marvel Universe’s version of the devil. A manipulative, power-hungry demon from a hell-like dimension, he feeds on souls and thrives on corruption and chaos.

Over the years, Mephisto has clashed with numerous heroes—Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, and yes, even Iron Man. His deal-making and reality-warping powers make him a perfect wildcard for the mystical side of the MCU.
Final Thoughts
While nothing is confirmed, all signs seem to be pointing toward Sacha Baron Cohen donning the horns. Whether or not Mephisto finally makes his long-awaited debut in Ironheart, one thing is certain—Marvel fans will be watching closely.

And if Marvel really is playing the long game with Mephisto? They’ve certainly made a devilish deal with the audience’s patience.
