Superman: Legacy director James Gunn recently shared that “none” of the film will be dedicated to Superman’s origin story.

Gunn responded to a user on Threads who asked, “How much of the movie is dedicated to the origin story?”
He replied, “None.”

Gunn’s revelation comes following a number of contradictory comments. Back in December 2022, Gunn shared that Superman: Legacy would be “focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life” and that was one of the main reasons why Henry Cavill would not be reprising his role as the character.

He reiterated this in response to a user assuming the film would be another Superman origin story stating, “[Superman’s] not meeting the major characters for the first time, either. He’s merely younger.”

However, by August 2023, Gunn claimed he was not making a young Superman movie.
He responded to a user on Threads, “I was never making a ‘young Superman’ movie, just a Superman movie!”

As for what Superman: Legacy will be about, Gunn shared in March 2023, “In many ways centering around Superman’s heritage – how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes.”

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran informed Variety in June 2023, “It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.”
Safran added that Superman “is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

The film will be full of DC characters outside Superman and Lois Lane. It features a number of members of the Justice League including Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabella Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor and there are rumors that a number of characters from The Authority will also show up in the film. Supergirl is also expected to appear in the film.
