Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel wasted no time turning the tragic assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk into a political weapon against President Trump.

Instead of using his ABC platform to reflect respectfully on this horrible event, Kimmel chose to attack President Trump..Again. This time over what he perceives as the president’s failure in calling for unity in the wake of tragedy. The problem? Kimmel has never been a voice for unity himself. In fact, his career has been built on stoking rage and mocking conservatives, making his lecture to Trump ring hollow.

Kimmel Blasts Trump over Charlie Kirk

Kimmel blasted Trump’s response to the Charlie Kirk tragedy, accusing the president of failing to comfort Americans in a time of crisis. he contrasted Trump’s words with previous presidents — Obama, Bush, Clinton, and Biden — who, in his telling, would have responded with more compassion and less political edge.

It was a typical Kimmel moment: a grandstand monologue delivered to applause from an audience predisposed to agree. But as so often with the late-night host, there was a glaring omission. Kimmel himself has never been the one calling for calm. He has never been the one to reach across divides. He has never been the one to invite dissenting voices into the room.

His version of “unity” is an echo chamber where conservatives are the punchline, and where half the country is treated as a threat rather than as fellow Americans.

A Career Built on Division

Jimmy Kimmel’s act has followed the same pattern for years. Long gone are the days when his comedy was lighthearted and aimed at broad audiences. Instead, Kimmel has aligned himself with one side of the political aisle and crafted his entire identity around belittling the other.

Think back to his treatment of Sarah Palin during the 2008 election cycle, or his constant stream of jokes about Mike Pence’s faith, or the years of nightly monologues tearing into Trump and his family. Kimmel has relentlessly portrayed conservatives not as political opponents but as dangerous caricatures to be ridiculed.

When conservatives succeed, Kimmel openly weeps on the air. When they falter, he gloats. His guests reflect this same one-sidedness: fellow left-leaning celebrities and political figures who reinforce his worldview. Viewers never see an honest debate on Kimmel’s stage. They see a nightly pep rally for progressives, complete with a laugh track.

For him to now claim the mantle of moral authority in the wake of Kirk’s killing is beyond hypocritical.

The Late-Night Echo Chamber

Kimmel’s performance this week is just the latest example of what late-night television has become: a partisan pulpit. Once a space for comedy that brought people together, shows like Kimmel’s now exist primarily to affirm the views of their audience. There is no dialogue, no engagement with differing perspectives, and certainly no attempt to bridge divides.

When tragedy strikes, the pattern repeats. Instead of reflection or unity, the script is simple: blame conservatives, attack Trump, and reinforce the talking points of the Left. The millions of Americans who don’t share that worldview are dismissed or mocked. And yet Kimmel dares to suggest that President Trump is the one responsible for stoking division?

Hypocrisy Laid Bare

This Jimmy Kimmel attack on Trump after the Charlie Kirk tragedy is not just misplaced — it’s hypocritical. For years, he has trafficked in the very tribalism he now pretends to oppose. He has radicalized his own shrinking late-night audience against Trump and conservatives in general. He has refused to use his platform for dialogue as Charlie Kirk did, preferring instead to mock, belittle, and divide.

The death of Charlie Kirk is a moment that should call all Americans to reject political hatred and resist the temptation to celebrate violence. But instead of pointing that out, Kimmel chose to use the tragedy as one more chance to bash Trump. That tells us all we need to know about where his priorities lie.

If Kimmel truly cared about unity, he would start practicing it. Until then, his lectures are nothing more than hollow grandstanding.
