With the Walt Disney Company’s 100 Years of Wonder celebration prematurely in full swing they seemed to have forgotten something… Disney!

The following article is derived from a press release provided to That Park Place.

Forgetting Disney in a Disney celebration might sound disingenuous with major movies like Snow White and Mary Poppins in the marketing but vast amounts of the company’s history have been seemingly omitted from the celebration including entire catalogs of content. It’s as if labels like Touchstone & Hollywood Pictures never even existed while relatively recent acquisitions like Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm are being given huge slices of Disney’s birthday cake.

To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with those studios, but just as you wouldn’t expect the American and French Revolutions to be celebrated together, it dilutes the historical significance of Walt’s studio to share much of the spotlight with these far younger entertainment companies that get to (rightly) celebrate their own anniversaries independently. And Disney has a lot more (in terms of output) to commemorate than all those other studios combined.

If the Disneyland kick-off to the celebration, with its Walt Disney misquotes and inaccurate banners, is any indication, A LOT of the Burbank studio’s library will be left on the cutting room floor at a time when they should be recognized the most.

But how?

If the current Studio’s stewards (either intentionally or out of indifference) won’t pay tribute to its own rich legacy, what can be done before so much cinematic history is swept away?

Enter JLH Omnimedia

No stranger to filling in the gaps of Disney’s history in entertaining ways, Mr. Harris has a plan to commemorate the centennial of the Studio in a unique way free from the constraints of corporate control. If he can get the support needed “Cinemagic Century” will combine the montage style of master editor Chuck Workman with JLH’s own decades-long historical study of the Walt Disney Studios into a featurette with artfully selected scenes from well-remembered classics to “deep cuts” and A LOT of motion pictures you never knew were important parts of Disney’s history.

“My goal is to showcase how the Walt Disney Studio, beyond just its animated classics and a handful of well-circulated live-action films, once encompassed a significantly larger (and richer) range of human experience than it does today,” Joshua said. “I’m not going to lie,” he continued. “This is a very daunting challenge to craft such a comprehensive yet concise film in such a short time, but if given the opportunity I’m pretty positive this film is sure to delight every Disney fan that ever was or will be. And perhaps it just might help heal some of the company’s self-inflicted wounds by subtlely providing inspiration for course correction.”

If his past projects are any indication, “Cinemagic Century: 100 Years of the Walt Disney Studios” could do all that and more! All that missing is your “green light” by becoming a supporter with several benefits, including advanced screenings, supplemental material and your own name in the credits!
