John Golf’s “Putting Around the USA”: PXG in Atlanta

This weekend was a bitterly cold weekend with a shot of snow for us in North Georgia and Southeast Tennessee. My brother and I had played golf in Chattanooga at Moccasin Bend Golf Course the previous Saturday. The weather was very spring-like and my golf game was in desperate need of a spring cleaning. My brother was fitted in Atlanta at PXG for his clubs. He was striking the ball well and it made me quite envious because he was playing so well.

My Golf Clubs

I have played golf since 1993. Used clubs have been used my entire golfing career. Most of my clubs have been purchased off eBay. I have a hodge-podge of clubs in my bag. Some clubs I hit well and others are hit or miss. Again, after watching my brother play so consistently, it was time to see if getting fitted for clubs made a difference.

First Stop

I went to my local public course to ask when their next fitting would be and he said the end of March and another at the beginning of June. We talked for a little bit and I brought up my brother’s experience at PXG. His words were the determining factor for me to make a reservation and get fitted. Mr. Hester stated that he went with a friend to get fitted at the same place and he was very impressed with the whole set up and how they go about fitting you into the perfect set.

Making The Reservation

You can make a phone call to reserve a fitting session or you can go online. I chose the online route. The website was very easy to navigate. A reservation to be fitted is $50. Mine was paid and I was ready to head to Atlanta.

The Trip to Atlanta

I asked my brother if he wanted to go with me down to Atlanta and he giddily accepted. We made our way into Lenox Square Mall parking lot. It was a full parking lot but we were able to park for free. We stopped at the mall kiosk to ask directions and they were very pleasant to direct us to our destination.

PXG Fitting Session

Arriving 45 minutes early allowed us to check in and browse the store. The apparel and accessories were of great quality and the price was reflective of it. Jonathan was the gentlemen working with me. I started off hitting a 7 iron.  Jonathan made a quick switch and I was hitting the ball straighter. Not pleased with the loft I was getting, he made another adjustment. I struck the ball well and the ball was traveling much farther than what I was accustomed to when playing with my old 7 iron.

We went to the driver next. I did the same as the 7 iron, with a few tweaks and changes to the club and shaft, my club was selected. We did the same for the 3 wood and for 2 hybrids. All of my measurements and stats were saved. The new clubs are now ready for me to purchase when I’m ready. I’m hoping it is sooner than later!

Last Stop

Our last stop was to eat at the Kennesaw/Barret Parkway exit. We stopped at Applebee’s to enjoy some Cajun Salmon with broccoli, green beans and a house salad. We laughed and joked a lot about my golf game and how we probably won’t be laughing about it too much in the future. I love this time with my brother.

Let me know about your experience with PXG or any other club fittings you may have experienced. Hit ’em long and straight!

Be blessed and safe travels!!!
