Who won the Johnny Depp v Amber Heard lawsuit? We bring you the facts, unlike quite a number of “news” organizations we’ll expose:
Defamation claims by a public person and/or figure are notoriously difficult to win. Yet win he did when it comes to Johnny Depp and his claims against ex-wife Amber Heard. Though Heard did have a single counter-claim awarded to her worth $2 million, Depp won all his claims against Heard. That even included punitive damages against Heard. All-in-all, Johnny Depp was awarded a net payment of $13 million from Amber Heard ($15m to Depp, $2m to Heard).
Depp was seeking $50 million in damages, but the jury has awarded him $15 million. However, the second count of Heard’s $100 countersuit were found in the actress’ favor and the jury awarded her $2 million in damages. — Deadline
We’ve also heard via news sources that Amber Heard has released a statement claiming she is “disappointed beyond words.”
I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband,” Heard said in the statement. I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously. — Amber Heard
Also of note in this breaking-news situation, the framing of this news is just astounding. ABC News, for example is running the following headline:
Jury awards Amber Heard $2 million in damages in her countersuit against ex-husband Johnny Depp
If that’s your headline title, it is absolutely propaganda. It’s not even misleading, it’s just flat-out propaganda in a culture war that has absorbed mainstream press. If one party is receiving a net $13 million, that’s the headline. Period.

Needless to say, it would appear that “journalists” have difficulty just reporting the news as it should be. But if you’re looking for a true winner in all of this, it’s probably The Walt Disney Company and Star Wars. At least for one news cycle, they can pause their spiraling. Congratulations.
Editor’s Note: We have seen the Johnny Depp statement but are waiting for it to be released in print so that we can link to a primary source.
