Katee Sackhoff Declares ‘The Mandalorian’ Is “Din Djarin’s Show” Despite EP Rick Famuyiwa Admitting Bo-Katan Kryze Was “The Mandalorian”

The Mandalorian actress Katee Sackhoff recently declared that The Mandalorian is still Din Djarin’s show despite the show’s executive producer Rick Famuyiwa previously claiming the show had switched focus to Bo-Katan Kryze.

Speaking with TheDirect, Sackhoff first indicated that she did not have any discussions with Jon Favreau or Dave Filoni about the show shifting focus from Din Djarin to Bo-Katan for season 3.

She said, “No. I think there’s always going to be a lot of speculation in this fandom. You know, I think it’s one of the reasons why people love this fandom so much.”

“And they love this universe so much that a lot of times it allows just enough ambiguity for people to interpret things the way that they want to interpret them. And out of that there is the ability to have a lot of misinformation get out, or just, you know, wishful thinking,” she added.

Sackhoff continued, “And I think in this situation, I think that the story of the Mandalorians and the story of Bo-Katan needed to be told, I don’t believe in any way that it was taking away from Din [Djarin’s] story, nor was that ever the intention.”

She then declared that The Mandalorian is still about Din Djarin, “And you know, Pedro and I aren’t in charge of who gets to lead the show [laughs]. This is Din Djarin’s show, it will always be Din Djarin’s show.”

These comments from Sackhoff fly in the face of Executive Producer Rick Famuyiwa’s pronouncement back at Star Wars Celebration in April.

Initially Famuyiwa played coy about the shift with ScreenRant reporting he said, “I think now with Bo possessing the Darksaber, I know that there was a lot of expectations that might have shifted both in terms of what it meant for Din Djarin, but also for Bo and what does it mean? Who is the Mandalorian at this point? And so I think it could be anyone. And I think that’s what they’re trying to define in many ways, is what does that mean to be Mandalorian?”

In another interview at Star Wars Celebration he noted the show was about Din Djarin and Grogu saying, “I think at the end of it, it’s always been about this core relationship with Din Djarin and Grogu. And I think we have just been trying to service that story. That story of this reluctant father figure and his child.”

“And where that adventure has taken us has sort of pushed the show and pushed the boundaries of the show as that relationship has grown and Din Djarin has been on this journey to sort of do right by these decisions he’s made. It sort of forced us and put us in a position of having to make the show bigger and that’s taken us to different places,” he added.

Famuyiwa concluded, “And this season is certainly a big example of that because now it ain’t just one Mando, it’s a lot of Mandos. And there’s a mommy.”

However, as part of the third season of Disney Gallery – Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Famuyia detailed that Bo-Katan had become the titular character.

He said, “Bo in many respects this season is also The Mandalorian. ‘Cause it’s so much about her story, and her journey, and her, sort of, initial ideas of going back and bringing her people back together that got derailed after she lost the Darksaber.”

Jon Favreau would also state, “She earned her stripes in adventures that we’ve all seen. From nobility and she’s been part of Death Watch. She’s existed in many different contexts. And she’s also a character where there’s room for development.”

As for where the show goes from here will be the tell tale sign of which character has taken on the show’s title. The ending of season three left it open. The show could follow Bo-Katan Kryze as she unites more Mandalorians under her banner and attempts to create a resurgent Mandalore or it could follow the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu as he takes bounties from the New Republic to hunt down Imperials.

What do you make of Sackhoff’s comments? Where do you want the show to go?

Dear Mr. Trent,
I’ve lost interest in the Mando show. If it is true the marketing department at Disney made the decision to put Grogu back with Mando then they are at fault for the state the show is in.
As for Mr. Pascal I feel his commitment to the show is lacking and I really wish Lucasfilm would be bold and drop him and recast with someone who won’t take off the helmet. Furthermore Lucasfilm has failed to create a story I’m interested in following. Disney + is not the best place for Star Wars in its current forms. I believe Disney should take Star Wars back to the cinema. I believe this so much that I have a plan for it. I’d like to see Lucasfilm engage other studios content sooner rather than later. I believe a quickened pace of Lucasfilm’s output at the cinema is where Disney can renew faith for fans and I believe that it is possible to produce good movies in a year at a budget of 75 to 150 million per film.
