Alyssa Mercante, the Senior Editor of Kotaku, recently attempted to passive aggressively get YouTuber Smash JT cancelled from San Diego Comic-Con.

Smash JT revealed on X he would be attending San Diego Comic-Con and shared two press passes in a photo. He wrote, “Let the hype…. BEGIN!!! LFG #SDCC2024.”

Mercante reacted to the post by sharing a “Thinking Face” emoji an an image that reads, “My God! There’s room for everybody. Let’s just say that.”

In subsequent posts she added, “Just hope SDCC is aware of how many press folks attending the con this man has harassed/slandered!!”
“If I was attending this year I would been appalled to walk into the press lounge and see the man who makes thumbnails of me and my colleagues’ cleavage for his videos in which he calls us whores! Just saying!”

In a separate post, Mercante added, “Anyway if you’re at SDCC and hear a voice that can only be described as a homophobic muppet, that’s Jeff Tarzia and I’m sorry he was allowed in!”
She added, “Check his phone and count how many pictures of me he has saved please.”

Clearly, Mercante is attempting to target Smash JT. She’s pointing and shrieking at him in her social media posts and she lies in them. As noted by Smash JT, Mercante repeatedly lies about him while attempting to cancel him. He writes, “I have never called you a ‘whore’. That’s libel, Alyssa. The image you present to the public can and WILL be used against you. I’ve called you a former cam girl, just as you refer to yourself here:

Not only is she targeting Smash JT and pointing and shrieking at him, but she is also attempting to isolate him and get her followers to swarm him.

Fortunately, for Smash JT, he’s headed off Mercante and refused to cave to her. In fact, he states, “It is clear that Mercante’s actions are driven by jealousy and an inability to handle the success of others. As we gear up for SDCC, her attempts to derail our excitement only highlight the pettiness and hypocrisy she embodies.”
This heads off a number of the other steps in the SJW playbook that rely on individuals to cave and apologize. However, Mercante is still clearly trying to put on a show trial with her posts by disparaging Smash JT with lies. It does not appear to be working as these social media show, for the most part, have lost a lot of luster since Elon Musk purchased X and significantly reduced the effectiveness of SJW cancel mobs.
