Hurricane Ian is a historic storm that is now making landfall. With sustained winds above 170MPH at the point of entry to the Sunshine State, the devastation is tremendous.

As this moment in time manifests, we are watching the impact of Hurricane to Florida and its tourism industry. We will be updating this article on a regular basis with new videos, photos and tweets.

Walt Disney World’s web services and apps have removed Friday from possibility for making reservations. This could either indicate cancellation of a third day for the parks OR it could indicate a delayed opening that would negate prior reservations. We will let you know once an official statement is provided.

The show movement of the hurricane meant that wind was significantly lower at the time of reaching the theme parks. It also meant record breaking rain has been dumped on the area. As daylight breaks, expect minor wind issues to Orlando attractions but potentially major water damage issues in isolated cases. For example, Disney Springs may be mostly okay while some hotels reportedly had running water flowing through the lower levels. If that remains to be the full extent, many areas in Orlando will be all too happy. Meanwhile, images out of Kissimmee show major flooding and damage.

9:30 PM EST (Final Update for this Article)

Disney has announced a phased reopening for the resort:

We are seeing the impacts of Hurricane lan across Florida and are thinking of our neighbors in Central Florida and across the state. We will share more information about our plan to support relief efforts for
our Florida neighbors soon.

We thank our first responders and community leaders for their courageous efforts in preparing for and managing the storm’s impact. To our cast members in Florida and in South Carolina, thank you for selflessly taking care of our guests.

We continue to closely monitor weather conditions as we assess the impact of Hurricane lan on our property. While theme parks and many operating areas remain closed to guests today, we anticipate weather conditions to improve this evening. Walt Disney World Resort will resume theme park and Disney Springs operations in a phased approach starting on Friday, Sept. 30. Operating hours will be updated later todav on DisnevWorld.com/Weather.

We wish all our Floridian friends well. God bless.
