Is this why they hate The Super Mario Bros Movie? There’s not a single character of queer representation in the film. Yet the movie is blowing up the box office regardless.
The YouTube channel YellowFlash2 has grown like mad over the last few years. Once a smaller channel, Flash has exploded onto the scene with excellent analysis and entertainment news coverage. Now, the 400K+ subscriber channel is claiming that the hatred for Mario may be coming from a media that noticed there’s no LGBTQIA+ representation in the movie. That is in spite of Bowser being attracted to Mario and Peach and Mario being teased in the movie for flirting.
Honestly, this is something that may have escaped many of us in our coverage of the movie and the unexpected backlash to it. Check out the video from Flash and see if you think he has caught onto something.
It’s such a bizarre world we currently live in, eh? Who would have ever thought a movie that is respectful of its 1980s children-friendly source material would be pulled into a culture war… because it attempts to avoid the culture war.
