Annual Passholder reservations for Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 22, 2026, are no longer available through the Walt Disney World reservation system. The date marks the opening day of the new The Mandalorian mission on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Disney announced earlier this year that the updated Smugglers Run experience would debut at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland on the same day that The Mandalorian & Grogu arrives in theaters. Walt Disney Imagineering revealed the project during SXSW.

New Mission Adds Mandalorian Characters to Smugglers Run

Disney confirmed that the attraction update will introduce a new storyline featuring Din Djarin and Grogu. According to Disney, guests will join the pair on a mission involving former Imperial officers and pirates.

The updated mission will also add new destinations to the attraction, including Tatooine, Bespin, and Coruscant. Disney has not announced changes to the ride system itself. Instead, the company is updating the attraction’s media and story elements.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run originally opened in 2019 as part of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The attraction allows guests to take on different flight crew roles aboard the Millennium Falcon during a simulated mission led by Hondo Ohnaka.

Hollywood Studios Reservations Unavailable for Passholders

The reservation sellout currently affects Annual Passholders who want to begin their day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on the attraction’s opening day. Reservations for Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom remain available for May 22.

Passholders without a Hollywood Studios reservation may still have another option. Most Annual Passholders can enter a Walt Disney World park after 2 p.m. without a reservation, although entry still depends on park capacity.

Guests may also park hop to Hollywood Studios later in the day after entering another park first. Walt Disney World has not announced any additional reservation inventory for May 22.

Updated Ride Roles Impact the Mission

The Mandalorian-themed update to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run includes changes to the ride’s three main crew roles: pilot, gunner, and engineer. According to Disney, each position now has a more direct effect on the success of the mission, increasing guest engagement throughout the ride.

  • Pilots are responsible for steering the Millennium Falcon through obstacles, planetary defenses, and enemy ships. Their choices now influence the overall outcome of the mission and the crew’s success in completing objectives.
  • Gunners operate the ship’s weapons systems, targeting enemy ships and Imperial defenses. Accurate firing contributes to mission success, affecting the final story result.
  • Engineers manage critical ship systems, including power distribution and repairs. Decisions made by engineers directly impact the Falcon’s performance and the crew’s ability to complete the mission safely. The engineer will now reportedly interact with Grogu directly.

Disney emphasized that collaboration between all three roles is now more crucial than before. The success of the mission depends on teamwork, with each role contributing in real time to the ride’s storyline. This enhancement aligns with the Mandalorian-themed update, making Din Djarin and Grogu’s mission a more interactive experience for riders.

Beforehand, many noted that pilots play the primary role in the mission’s success, with gunners and engineers having an influential though not crucial impact.

Film Release Coincides With Attraction Update

The opening day of the new Mandalorian mission on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run coincides with the theatrical release of The Mandalorian & Grogu. The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 22, 2026, the same date the attraction update debuts at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

The movie continues the story from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. It follows Din Djarin, a bounty hunter, and Grogu as they become involved in new conflicts across the galaxy. The plot reportedly focuses on shifting political tensions after the fall of the Empire, though Disney has released limited story details.

Guests planning to visit on the opening day of the new Mandalorian mission on Smugglers Run can continue checking the official Walt Disney World reservation calendar for availability changes.
