Pascal, Kirby, Moss-Bachrach, and Quinn were rumored to nab the roles back in November. Scooper Jeff Sneider even claimed that Pascal landed the role because Kevin Feige feared the rest of the cast was “way too white.”
Sneider shared on his website, “I’m told [Kevin Feige] feared that the cast was ‘way too white,’ in the words of one insider. Reed Richards would be the character eyed to diversify the cast.”
Along with claiming Pedro Pascal would play Reed Richards due to Feige’s racism, Sneider also noted that Kirby would play Sue Storm, Quinn would play Johnny Storm, and Moss-Bachrach would play the Thing.
Sneider’s reporting regarding Pascal would be corroborated by Deadline’s Justin Kroll who shared, “Insiders add that scheduling is still being worked out, but multiple sources close to the negotiations are saying it’s headed in the right direction for Pascal to do this and his other future projects.”

Given Sneider’s reporting on the cast is now confirmed to be accurate, it leaves big questions about the rest of the film given the scooper also claimed that the Silver Surfer will be gender-swapped.
During an episode of The Hot Mic he said, “The idea is that one of his four heralds — someone had said — is going to be female. I have heard that the Silver Surfer is going to be female.”
He reiterated this information as part of his newsletter where he wrote, “And yes, you can expect to see a female Silver Surfer.”

Aside from these rumors, the announcement does indeed appear to confirm the film will take place at least in part in the 1960s.
YouTuber Robert Meyer Burnett noted the Thing is reading a Life Magazine issue with Lyndon B. Johnson on the cover. The cover is dated December 1963. Given the announcement was made during Valentine’s Day, Burnett speculates it will take place in February of 1964.

What do you make of this cast for the Fantastic Four?

I think another/more likely reason Pascal was chosen is that he is widely regarded as one of the most attractive and in-demand actors right now.
