After more than two decades, Mike Myers says Austin Powers 4 is happening.
The revelation came during an appearance on Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party, where a viewer directly asked Myers if audiences would ever see another installment in the spy-comedy franchise.

Myers delivered a simple response: “Yes.”
While the actor did not provide any additional details about the project, the brief confirmation immediately reignited interest in one of the most successful comedy franchises of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Austin Powers Became a Pop Culture Phenomenon
The Austin Powers series began in 1997 with Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, a parody of James Bond and other classic spy films. While the original movie was only a modest theatrical success, it became a major hit on home video and quickly developed a cult following.
Two sequels followed: 1999’s Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and 2002’s Austin Powers in Goldmember. In total, the franchise has grossed more than half a billion dollars worldwide. Additionally, catchphrases like “Yeah, baby!” and “Oh, behave!” quickly worked their way into pop culture.

The influence of the Austin Powers films extended beyond comedy. In a 2012 interview, Daniel Craig said that the James Bond franchise had to “destroy the myth because” of Mike Myers’ sendup of spy movie tropes. He emphasized that while he is a fan of Myers, Austin Powers created new challenges for James Bond.
Previous Attempts Never Quite Came Together
Rumors of an Austin Powers 4 have circulated for years, though director Jay Roach previously suggested that it ultimately hinged on Mike Myers finding the right idea.
“I wouldn’t say ‘never’ never, but it does depend on Mike having something that he’s inspired about and after all these years it hasn’t quite clicked yet,” Roach told Deadline in 2020. “But I’m always game for anything he wants to do. He’s a genius and he helped me get started and it was a blast.”
For his part, Mike Myers has suggested in the past that he would like a potential Austin Powers 4 to focus more heavily on Dr. Evil. Which of the franchise’s other iconic characters might return remains a matter of speculation. However, Vern Troyer, who played Mini-Me, passed away in 2018.

The renewed interest comes shortly after Myers reprised his role as Dr. Evil in a Verizon commercial alongside fellow Austin Powers cast members Seth Green, Mindy Sterling, and Rob Lowe.
The Timing May Finally Be Right
As Hollywood continues reviving properties from the 1990s and early 2000s, now may be the ideal time for Mike Myers to bring Austin Powers back.
Scream 7, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and the most recent Scary Movie have all been box office hits. Meanwhile, Shrek 5, another Myers franchise, is already set to return to theaters in 2027. If Austin Powers 4 does materialize, striking the right balance between nostalgia and fresh material could give Myers another major hit. Whether or not it could bring in “one billion dollars” worldwide remains to be seen.

For now, there is no official word from Warner Bros. that the project has been greenlit. Nevertheless, Mike Myers’ claim marks the strongest sign yet that the long-gestating sequel is finally becoming a reality.
