Mother’s Day: A John Golf Reflection

The following is an account of how John Golf enjoyed Mother’s Day celebrating the important women in his life. We hope it inspires you and reminds you of some of the ways those important motherly figures matter to all of us.

I woke up on Sunday morning and looked into the eyes of the mother of my children. I told her Happy Mother’s Day and said to her that today was her day. She politely responded, “Isn’t every day my day?” I told her good point, but today was special because we were celebrating her being the mother of my children.

How the Day Started

My wife made her way to the kitchen to find gifts from my daughter. There were a few gift certificates to some of her favorite places to visit (Starbucks, Marshall’s and TJ Maxx are some of her favorites). I know you may be wondering what I gave my wife for a present. She wants a spa day. She’s already got the place picked out, so she just has to go. That’s my present to her.

We (my wonderful wife, my daughter and myself)  made plans to go to church and Sunday school. The service was great and the old hymns were able to stir up old images of the old country church from years ago. Sunday school offered us a chance to dive into some scripture with fabulous applications to our life.

Mother’s Day Lunch

We finished Sunday school and headed to Outback Steakhouse. The only problem is that they don’t open until 11. It was only 10:30. Our Outback Steakhouse is located right behind a Cracker Barrel, so we went to there. Cracker Barrel patrons packed the place. We looked around for a bit inside the store and then decided to go back to Outback. It opened at 11 and we were seated immediately. My son joined the three of us. She had her favorite at Outback by ordering a baked potato and a house salad. I had the salmon with a sweet potato and seasoned veggies. It was delicious!!!

We had such a good time reminiscing about the the good times of our adult children growing up with such a wonderful mother. We have truly been blessed by her.

The “Rest” of the Day

Anyone that knows my lovely wife, the mother of my children, knows that she loves a good nap. We arrived home after our lunch. She did a couple of clean up duties in the house and then she rested, for about 4 hours.  As she rested, I did some yard work and I cleaned her car at the car wash, inside and outside. Then it was laundry and rest after a busy weekend.

To All Mothers

I’d like to personally say how much I appreciate all ladies that have had the opportunity to be a mother directly or indirectly. I wish a Belated Happy Mother’s Day to all future Moms. We wished that we could have celebrated Mother’s Day with my own mother and my mother-in-law. I did get to send them a text. I also sent a a Happy Mother’s Day wish to my sister who has been close to my children their whole lives. She has been their second Mom.

To those that do not have their mothers here with us, I hope that you had an opportunity to celebrate the memory of that special lady.

Please feel free to share a special memory of your Mom or a person that has been a “mother” figure with us. We would love to hear about it.
