You might have thought that NBC’s issues hosting the Olympics would have been realized by now. The Chinese government is committing genocide, that’s bad enough. Then on top of that the Olympics have seen a decrease in ratings over the past decade. That’s plenty bad. And it’s bad enough that NBC brought in their own ratings company to try to boost those stats (allegedly) because they didn’t care for Nielsen’s own numbers. We’ve covered all of that already.
But it turns out things can get worse. There are so many things to talk about when it comes to this being a disaster for NBC that it’s hard to keep up… lets give it our best shot:
First off, Peng Shuai is a women’s tennis star who had brought attention to the world that a communist party big wig had raped her. She said she felt like a corpse now. Well, after disappearing for a while, she reappeared at the Olympics to be interviewed with government pre-approved questions and a minder in the room. She recants everything about the rape, she gives the most ridiculous responses that are so far-fetched she is assumed to be crying out for help, and then she announces she is retiring from tennis. Can you say “I’m in grave danger” any better way?
“But let’s say you wanted to get your message out anyway. Let’s say you wanted to sound like someone who is not free and fine even as you say you are free and fine. Let’s say you wanted to make it clear that you stand by the rape allegation but while sounding like you aren’t standing by the rape allegation. Let’s say you are trying to call for help without calling for help.
You know what you would do?
You would sound exactly like Peng Shuai sounded in her comments to L’Equipe, a French newspaper. And then you would hope someone was reading carefully.”
Well that’s horrifying. Let’s see if it can somehow get worse…
How about if China is giving out pandemic tests and suddenly some of the best athletes for various countries are getting shocking results, which then force them into a quarantine hotel where they are treated to worse-than-prison conditions? Not only does this allow China to win in some of the competitions while their foes are forced into isolation, but even if those other athletes test back out of the hotel, they’re now so malnourished that they can’t compete at any level close to where they were.
Russian athlete Valeria Vasnetsova posted this photo on Instagram.

There’s plenty more, including NBC anchors being sent out of China already and feuds with Leslie Jones… but rather than go into those issues, just take a look at these images. You remember when the Winter Olympics were hosted on mountain slopes and ski resorts? How about industrial cooling towers… you ever remember that? It’s very scenic. And it gives us a look behind the Chinese information curtain:

All you can really do is congratulate NBC and the IoC on exactly how bad this all is. And good for China — they’ve really convinced the world their whole pandemic narrative has been true. Things are great over there.
Now we all get to wonder, how much worse will it get before it’s over?

Getting away with murder. Literally and figuratively.
