Disney has revealed new details about Monstropolis at Disney World, the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The project will begin opening in 2027, with its entertainment, dining and retail offerings arriving alongside a later phase for the suspended coaster.
Disney announced the land in 2024. At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in August 2026, the company provided new details about the individual venues and attractions.
Harryhausen’s Restaurant
Harryhausen’s Restaurant will bring a location from Monsters, Inc. into the new land. The sushi restaurant appeared in the 2001 film as “the location of one of Mike and Celia’s most unforgettable dates.”
Disney plans to feature an Audio-Animatronics sushi chef at the restaurant.

Although the full menu has not been released, Disney assures that more than sushi will be offered. Michael Hundgen, Vice President Creative, described it, “A menu unlike anything else we offer at Walt Disney World. It will be a great place to bring your Schmoopsie-poo for a romantic meal.”
Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza
Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will provide the second announced restaurant in Monstropolis. The restaurant takes its name from Archie, the six-legged Scare Pig mascot associated with Monsters University.
The restaurant will occupy space within the former Muppets Courtyard area. The redevelopment of the area also removed PizzeRizzo, which previously served pizza at the park.
Monsters University Alumni Club
Next doors to Archie’s, the Monsters University Alumni Club will bring another location from the films into the new land. Disney says the club will include references to student organizations, fraternities and sororities from Monsters University.
The club will also feature the Scarer’s Club, which honors notable scarers from the university’s history. The location will sit near Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza and add another connection to the Monsters University film.

Scareporium
Scareporium will serve as Monstropolis’ main merchandise shop, as described so far.
Chris Beatty, Vice President, Walt Disney Imagineering, said it will be “… a shop where all of us human tourists can grab a great souvenir to remember our visit.”
“Welcome to Monstropolis” at the Glob Theater
The former Muppet*Vision 3D theater will become the Glob Theater. Disney will use the venue for a new stage production called “Welcome to Monstropolis.”
Beatty shared, “Mike and Sulley will be our hosts. Sulley has been working on a small, homespun show, but Mike – ever the showman – has a few surprises up his sleeve that he thinks will bring down the house. Hopefully not literally.”

Randy Newman wrote a new song by the same title, “Welcome to Monstropolis,” for the production. Disney says it marks Newman’s first song composed for a Disney theme park. Megan Hilty performed part of the song during the D23 presentation.
Monsters, Inc. Suspended Coaster
The Monstropolis coaster will recreate the door vault from Monsters, Inc, using to travel through the factory. Disney has described it as the first suspended coaster at a Disney park. The attraction will also feature a vertical lift, based on the mechanism used to move doors through the factory in the film.
Disney showed an updated animation of the ride at D23. The vehicle rises approximately 40 feet in four seconds before entering the door vault.
Unlike the restaurants, store and Glob Theater, the coaster will not open during the first phase of Monstropolis. Disney has confirmed that the land will begin opening in 2027, but it has not announced a date for the coaster. Many fans anticipate that the coaster will likely not open till 2028.
The Story Connecting Monstropolis
The individual venues share a common story. Monstropolis takes place after the events of Monsters, Inc., when the city has changed from using screams to using laughter as its primary energy source.
In the film, Mike and Sulley discover that laughter produces more energy than screams. The change also affects how monsters view humans. Monstropolis has established a Department of Human Relations to help its residents understand people from the human world.

H.U.M.A.N. Day announcement for Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Disney Parks Blog
That leads to H.U.M.A.N. Day, which stands for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice.” Disney describes the event as the first official invitation for humans to visit Monstropolis. Guests will enter the land as human visitors taking part in the event.
What the land replaces
Monstropolis is being built on the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the area formerly known as Grand Avenue and Muppets Courtyard. Disney announced the project alongside plans to close the Muppet-themed area. Muppet*Vision 3D, Jim Henson’s last Major project, and PizzeRizzo had their final day on June 7, 2025.
The Muppets themselves have not left Hollywood Studios entirely. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was rethemed as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets and opened in 2026.
Monstropolis opening date and remaining details
Disney has confirmed that Monstropolis will begin opening in 2027. The company has not announced a specific opening date.
The first phase will include Harryhausen’s Restaurant, Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, the Scareporium and “Welcome to Monstropolis” at the Glob Theater. The suspended coaster will open separately.
Further details about individual menus, operating schedules and the coaster’s opening are still to come from Disney.
