A new rumor claims to explain why Marvel Studios chose to remove its Blade film from its release calendar.

Blade: The Early Years Omnibus (2023), Marvel Comics

Variety’s Adam B. Vary and Rebecca Rubin reported earlier this week that the film, which was scheduled to be released on November 7, 2025 had been removed from Disney’s release schedule.

Their report speculated that the reason the film was removed from the calendar was due to all the inner turmoil the film has faced from having numerous writers including Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo, Nic Pizzolatto, and more recently Eric Pearson draft scripts.

Not only did the film seemingly face scripting issues, but it also saw its original director Bassam Tariq exit the film. In Jun, Tariq’s replacement Yann Demange also left the project.

They also noted that insiders informed them that “Marvel didn’t want to move forward with a Blade that doesn’t live up to its predecessors.

Following this report a rumor from Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus shared that the reason the film was removed was “because story is disconnected from the rest of the Multiverse Saga.”

He added, “Same goes for Armor Wars, Nova, etc. It’s not that they’re not getting made, they’re getting pushed to make room for Multiversal stories.”

He clarified in a subsequent post, “Not make room, because they ain’t adding other movies to replace Blade’s slot. FOCUS SOLELY on Multiversal Stories is what I meant to say.”

Perez also shared that Marvel has an entire Midnight Sons arc set up for Blade and it is the only thing keeping actor Mahershala Ali attached to the film.

He wrote on X, “He has a whole arc set up with Midnight Sons and the Supernatural side of the MCU. DS2, WBN, Moon Knight, Agatha and Ironheart only have scratched the surface of what’s coming. That is the only thing that’s kept him attached.”

While the film has been removed from Marvel’s release calendar, Marvel Games has partnered with Bethesda’s Arkane Lyon studio to develop Marvel’s Blade, which is described as a “mature, single player, third-person game set in the heart of Paris.” The game features an original story rather than being based on the films starring Wesley Snipes or an adaptation from the comics.”
