A new rumor claims to provide more details about The Walt Disney Company’s next Pirates of the Caribbean film.

Carina Smyth Barbossa (Kaya Scodelario) and Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) attempt to run from the authorities in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2011), Disney
This rumor comes on the heels of scooper Daniel RPK via The Dis Insider claiming that actress Ayo Edebiri, who recently dropped out of Marvel’s Thunderbolts film, will be the main protagonist for the film.
Daniel RPK also shared that the film would feature a black woman codenamed Anne leading a group of young pirates in search of treasure.
This rumor partially lines up with what producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said in the past. He told The Hollywood Reporter in December 2022, “We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully we’ll get both of them.”

Now, scooper MyTimeToShineHello shared more details about the film. He said, “I looked into it and Pirates of Caribbean 6 will be set in part in Haiti and the female protagonist will be Haitian.”
Furthermore, he shared, “Also they do want Johnny Depp to come back just not as the lead.”

This also aligns with comments that Bruckheimer has made. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Bruckheimer was asked if Disney was considering bringing Johnny Depp back to the role. He answered, “You’d have to ask them. I can’t answer that question. I really don’t know. [But] I would love to have him in the movie.”
“He’s a friend, a terrific actor and it’s unfortunate that personal lives creep into everything we do,” he lamented. “You can’t [kill Jack]. We tried to kill him. It didn’t work.”

In February 2023, Bruckheimer was asked by Deadline, “Would you bring Johnny Depp back in Pirates? You’ve intimated that they’re talking about that possibility?”
He answered, “Yeah. I think Johnny is another friend and amazing artist, and again you go through things in life that you wish you hadn’t. But he’s still a talented artist.”

The last we heard from Depp on this matter was during his testimony in his lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard where he made it abundantly clear he had no intention of working for The Walt Disney Company ever again.
Depp was asked during the trial by Heard’s lawyer Ben Rottenborn, “If Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film?”
Depp replied, “That is true, Mr. Rottenborn.”
