The idea of an Ocarina of Time remake is once again making the rounds—and this time, it’s coming from sources that are at least worth paying attention to.

According to a new report from Video Games Chronicle, Nintendo may be planning a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2, with a release window targeting the second half of 2026.

Before anyone gets carried away, though, let’s be clear: this is still a rumor. Nintendo has not announced anything, and everything being discussed right now stems from insider claims—not official confirmation.

Where the Rumor Comes From

The report traces back to industry insider “NateTheHate,” who claimed on a podcast that Nintendo is preparing a major remake of the 1998 classic as part of its broader 2026 lineup.

According to that claim, the remake would arrive “approaching the holidays” in 2026, aligning with the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Nintendo has a long history of tying major releases to milestone anniversaries, and a reimagining of one of its most iconic titles would certainly qualify as a centerpiece event.

Even more interesting, VGC states that NateTheHate’s information “matches” what its own sources have heard, adding a second layer of credibility to the report—even if it’s still unverified.

Why Ocarina of Time?

If Nintendo were going to revisit any game in its catalog, Ocarina of Time is the obvious choice.

Released in 1998 on the Nintendo 64, the game is widely regarded as one of the most influential titles ever made—and still holds legendary status among fans.

It already received an updated version on the Nintendo 3DS in 2011, but that release was more of a visual and quality-of-life upgrade than a full-scale remake.

What’s being rumored now sounds like something far more ambitious.

And frankly, it would have to be.

You don’t remake Ocarina of Time in 2026 just to clean up textures and call it a day. Expectations would demand a complete overhaul—modern visuals, reworked mechanics, and potentially even expanded content.

Anything less would likely be seen as a missed opportunity.

The Bigger Switch 2 Strategy

What makes this rumor even more compelling is how it fits into the broader picture.

The same report claims Nintendo is planning:

  • A new Star Fox game in Summer 2026
  • No new 3D Mario until 2027
  • And a major Zelda remake filling the holiday slot

In other words, if this lineup is accurate, Nintendo is leaning heavily on legacy franchises to carry the early lifecycle of its new console.

And that’s not a bad bet.

An Ocarina of Time remake would be exactly the kind of system-selling release you build around—something that appeals to longtime fans while introducing a new generation to one of gaming’s most celebrated adventures.

Why Fans Should Stay Cautious

All of this sounds great on paper. But it’s still just on paper.

Even with VGC backing up parts of the claim, there are no official announcements, no trailers, and no confirmation from Nintendo itself.

Rumors like this surface all the time, especially when it comes to beloved franchises. And while this one lines up neatly with Nintendo’s typical strategy, that doesn’t make it real.

At least not yet.

I’ve heard so many great things about the original, but I don’t trust remakes. Plus I’m definitely not getting a Switch 2 for it.

Will it contain anti-Western, anti-White propaganda to trans your kids? Girlbosses? That’s my assumption with new stuff.
