Ozark is one of the most popular streaming properties of all time. A clue inside Nielsen statistics reveals why… and it matches how much family feels as well!
The pandemic gave my family an opportunity to navigate the streaming universe. We saw what folks on Netflix were watching and found out from some friends that Ozark was a series worth our time for entertainment. After watching the first episode we were hooked. The key takeaway: everyone was hooked, not just the guys or the girls.
Binge-watching this series became a must. We flew through the first 3 seasons rather quickly and highly anticipated the fourth season. To our surprise, we learned that Season 4 would be the last and that it would in two parts with seven episodes in each part. Obviously, we weren’t the only ones eagerly awaiting the premiere of Season 4. According to the title of Monica Marie Zorrilla’s article on the Variety website:
Streaming Ratings: ‘Ozark’ Season 4 Snatches 4 Billion Viewing Minutes Following Part 1 Premiere
That’s a lot of minutes. Her article includes this:
“Ozark” audiences have proven that time stolen can also be time well-spent: the Netflix crime thriller starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and Julia Garner, snatched over 4 billion viewing minutes for the week of Jan. 24 through 30. Per Nielsen Analytics, Season 4 of “Ozark” has hit the fourth-highest streaming total ever— “Tiger King” had hit 5.3 billion followed up with a 4.4 billion minute week in 2020, and “Ozark” cinched 5.2 billion during the week of March 30, 2020.
I found the demographics to be interesting for this series premiere. The highlighted part is what I found most interesting in the next sentence. Zorilla provides the following details: Viewership for “Ozark” was evenly split between male and female viewers, which tends to be unusual for streaming content. 60% of “Ozark’s” audience was between the ages of 35-64, 20% of the audience was aged 18-34 and the rest were adults aged over 65.
Let me know in the comments below why you think Ozark is pulling off the unthinkable and getting equal interest from men and women. That’s something you only see out of the absolute most successful properties out there… and something that Netflix is undoubtedly hoping they can replicate with the fourth season of Stranger Things.
Season 4 Part 1 Recap
The Byrde family seems to be working their way out of the grip of the Navarro Cartel from Mexico. The show is quite captivating in the sense that you’re rooting for them to be able to escape the entangled web. However, their past sins come back to haunt them and keep them securely planted in the cartel’s money-laundering scheme. Ruth, played by Julia Garner, has kin-folk (her cousin Wyatt) that are brutally murdered by the cartel and she’s ready to seek revenge. This leads up to Part 2 of Season 4.
Season 4 Part 2
Part 2 is going to be released on April 29 this year. Netflix has released a trailer to give us an idea of what is to come in late April.
I look forward to watching as this really good story comes to an end. The actors in this series have been quite masterful in their craft.
Let me know what you think may happen as we close in on the finale. Do you think the finale will be the most watched episode of any Netflix series?
Be blessed and happy streaming!!!
