Paul Rudd has appeared in a new Nintendo Switch 2 trailer and the internet is very happy. With the new system set to release this June, Nintendo is gearing up their marketing campaign in order to get people to buy the newest console. However, will the famous actor of Ant-Man and Clueless fame help land Nintendo the huge success they’re truly hoping for?

Nintendo has never been a company that has needed celebrities or other kinds of famous people to push sales for their products, which makes it all the more fascinating when the home of Mario collaborates with a big name. Perhaps the most shocking factor of the ad is that this is not even the first time Paul Rudd has appeared in a Nintendo commercial.
33 years ago a young Paul Rudd appeared in a non-speaking roll during an advertisement for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. This 1991 ad featured the young actor playing the SNES at a drive-in theater, attracting a crowd to watch him play the new video games. The commercial has received positive reception for the retro feel and the sheer excitement and scale of older video game ads. In an uncharacteristic move, Nintendo even uploaded the original commercial to their YouTube channel in high definition for viewers of all ages to see.
While the 2025 ad has scaled back in terms of special effects and lightning compared to its 90s predecessor, the new trailer has been received warmly for its inclusion of Paul Rudd and the natural sense of progression for both the actor and systems. The ad features self-aware humor at the cheese of the 90s commercial bringing attention to the actor’s outfit, slogans and background fog machine.
“You know guys, it’s nice ‘playing with power,’ but this is better because now we’re playing together…super together!”

When the Super Nintendo was originally coming to the West back in 1991, Nintendo had a lot to prove. After becoming a household name in the 80s with their original Nintendo Entertainment System, many parents did not want to buy a brand new console after having already spent a ton of money on the previous system. While technology upgrades have now become much more of a standard in our culture, once again there was the question of whether Nintendo’s newest console could live up to its price and the massive shoes of its predecessor.
The Switch 2 presales sold out almost immediately at all major U.S. retailers including Target, Walmart, and GameStop, so they’re certainly off to a good start.

Whether or not, the Nintendo Switch 2 will match the success and sales of its predecessor remains to be seen. If Paul Rudd’s commercial can possibly teach us anything, people love a recognizable face that’s likeable and Nintendo has a lot of that with their own characters.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has seen a mixed reaction from sheer excitement for the next generations of games bound to make lasting memories to hesitation at the many price increases plaguing the system’s hype. A glance at the YouTube comment section on the video, now accumulating over 1 million views, will show that Nintendo has built a legacy of quality that has created much nostalgia for players.

Many are optimistic for what the Switch 2 can bring. If the reception can be as positive as the reaction the Paul Rudd ad has gained recently, the company could be on track to finding another big success.
