How you respond to this news about an upcoming children’s and family film likely depends on your own value system. One thing seems certain: The Walt Disney Company is focused on homosexual and LGBTQ+ issues.
According to Variety, the next movie from Pixar, a film starring Buzz Lightyear, will feature a lesbian kiss. How that will make it through the censors in the Middle East, China, and other locales is unclear. Whether or not Disney executives would not remove the kiss likewise seems less-than-likely given the employee response within their studios. This would not, however, be the first time that Pixar has attempted to insert overt homosexual acts of affection into their children’s films before. It seems to be the first time they’ve been successful.
“Nearly every moment of overtly gay affection is cut at Disney’s behest, regardless of when there is protest from both the creative teams and executive leadership at Pixar. Even if creating LGBTQIA+ content was the answer to fixing the discriminatory legislation in the world, we are being barred from creating it.”
— Pixar Employees Statement
After an attempt at moderating politically, it appears that Disney is moving quickly towards a different path. They had apparently already cut the kissing scene from Lightyear before putting it back into the movie last week.
It will be interesting to see how the various social, ideological, religious, and demographic groups Disney counts on as consumers will respond. Of particular interest is whether or not this will quell the planned March 22nd walkout by Disney Company employees.

This is whack a mole. Inserting bad messages and graphic sexual scenes is already in many films. The problem with the lesbian scenes is more with expectations than what it might actually be. It’s a cartoon. We don’t know how it might be depicted. Ultimately, the signaling from Disney will tank the movie. People just won’t watch it. Thanks for the warning.
Would you have a problem with a heterosexual kiss in a Disney movie?
Hi there! I just saw this comment on a straight news article.
