Playstation 5 Supplies Finally Catch Up Enough to Allow for Appearance in Stores

A tech crunch on chip and transistor supplies led to a new generation of consoles that were largely unavailable. For the first time now, it looks like Sony’s PS5 is appearing on shelves.

If you are one of the may avid gamers trying to get your hands on a Playstation 5, your wait might be coming to an end. Ever since the Playstation 5 released on November 12, 2020, they have been nearly impossible for the casual (or budget conscious) shopper to find. If you wanted a PS5, your best bet was to activate notifications for one of the many Twitter accounts dedicated to solely to tracking where PS5’s might be dropping soon.
Even then, large retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and Gamestop took advantage of consumers by requiring them to join paid rewards programs like Walmart+ ($12 a month), PowerUp Rewards, or TotalTech (at $200 a year) for the CHANCE to get in line for the possibility to purchase a Playstation 5. No guarantees. Sony even had their own queue system where you could enter your email for an eventual chance to come back and purchase a PS5 directly from the source. From personal experience I can tell you that this process took months in some cases.
The only sure way to get a Playstation 5 was to feed the scalpers by paying several hundred dollars over retail on sites like eBay, with the disc version of the system going for more than $400 over retail when you include shipping.
With the retail price of PS5s increasing outside of North America, there was little hope that we would see physical units on store shelves any time soon, but sure enough, I found one in the wild!
After doing a little digging, it appears I’m not the only one to find PlayStations on the shelf:

I don’t take this as an indication that interest in the Playstation 5 is waning. As of March of this year, Sony has sold nearly 20 million units after only 2 years.
Are you going to pick one up?
