The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power scoopers, Fellowship of Fans released a statement claiming that Amazon Studios is spreading a number of false rumors about the upcoming second season.

The scoopers posted to X writing, “FoF has been made aware of a long term plan carried out over roughly the last 6 months by the production and team members of the Rings of Power to release and spread false rumours pertaining to season 2.”

They continued, “Due to this revelation, FoF will be halting any releases of future reveals and scoops for the time being in order to undertake a full investigation to reevaluate and analyse our previous scoops and reveals for season 2 to see if we have misreported anything or released purposeful misinformation and get to the bottom of all this.”

“From what we understand this attempt was to catch out people who were leaking in the crew and to make sure in future that outlets would be leaking out wrong information. We will get back to you guys in a few weeks time to update you if we have any updates from our investigation, which will include a list of the headlines/bigscoops and reveals (from us and other outlets) that we can confirm is true and not misinformation,” they included.

What’s still unclear is if this claim that Prime Video and Amazon Studios did indeed engage in a disinformation campaign, it’s unclear why their disinformation would paint their own show in such a negative light.

Many of the leaks around Season 2 have indicated the show, which lost 63% of its original audience in Season 1, will be doubling down on the terrible creative decisions it made in Season 1.

READ: ‘The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power’ Rumor Claims Prime Video Will Depict Morgoth And Ungoliant As Tom Bombadil And Goldberry

We’ve seen rumors that claim Morgoth and Ungoliant will be Tom Bombadil and Goldberry. That Sauron will be played Indian actor Gavi Singh Chera and that Adar will be the commander of Sauron’s army when he attacks Eregion.

We’ve also seen a rumor that Sauron nearly convinces Gandalf to join his cause in the second season.

If any of these leaks are false, it makes absolutely no sense as to why Prime Video or Amazon Studios would leak them in an attempt to regain the audience it lost in Season 1 nevertheless to try and smoke out supposed leakers from the production. It all sounds like trash and did not happen in Tolkien’s legendarium.

You would think if the company was trying to gin up interest in Season 2 they would have learned a thing or two from how Spider-Man: No Way Home handled leaks by teasing characters and potential plots that fans and moviegoers would actually be interested in.

I think that all the terrible things leaked were actually real, and Amazon, much like Disney, is just waking up from their woke fever dream and are FINALLY playing damage control like “no those were all FAKE leaks” (While the writers are scrambling in the background making frantic changes..)
