This past weekend was spent with family and friends in various capacities. A wonderful dinner with WDW Pro and his lovely wife on Friday night was the beginning of a nice weekend for me and my family. The dinner on Friday was at a gourmet Italian restaurant. I never would have guessed Pro to be an anchovy kind of guy but there are always little surprises in store when spending time with eclectic personalities. I tried a slice of the anchovy pizza and it was much better than I had anticipated.

Here are the gourmet piatto pizzas we ordered (ultra thin crust). Try these out the next time you’re out and about:

Mine
BBQ Sauce
Pulled Pork
Ham
Bacon

WDW Pro’s
Anchovies
Black Olives
Mushrooms
Onions
Feta

It was so much fun to swap stories, laugh and try some of the best bread sticks I’ve ever had in my life.

The next day found me working at our local golf course. Work started at 6:30 in the morning and I finished close to 4:00 that afternoon. It was a rather peaceful day at the course because we had a 2-man select shot tournament. With a shotgun start, the tournament was done in 5 hours after the 8:30 start. I answered the phone and welcomed our guests for the rest of the afternoon. I went home to enjoy the rest of the afternoon and evening with my lovely wife.

The Garden Update

Sunday was a day where we started at church. We then headed to the farm to check on the garden that we helped plant a few weeks ago. My wife and I also planned on helping my in-laws pressure wash the exterior of their house. We made a full day of it.

The garden was really beginning to show some progress. The squash we planted are already showing some blooms. We kept checking all of our plants and found more blooms on the cucumbers and even found 1 small tomato forming . The corn has grown from seed to plants that are about a foot tall.

My father-in-law is out in the garden every day. A little hoeing, here and there, he has kept the garden in really good shape. I forgot that we planted sunflowers and they are starting to show signs of growth also. I asked when they thought we will possibly be harvesting and the reply was possibly next week. My in-laws have done a wonderful job of teaching us how to put out a garden. My father-in-law shared that it is close to time to put some lime out for our tomato plants.

They say that gardening is a hobby you do for the joy of it. I’m starting to learn that but it’s also fully hard work. Maybe it’s like a huge bicycling trip or a tough hike in that regard?

I really hope to see the “fruits” of our labor before my trip to Yellowstone. I can only imagine what the garden will look like when we get back from our trip on June 10th. Then it will be canning time.
