Action, comedy, horror… Universal is aiming for all of it with a brand new spin on Dracula. Can they hit it out of the park with Millennials and Gen Z using a classic monster movie?
Renfield is an upcoming American action horror-comedy film directed by Chris McKay and written by Ryan Ridley, based on an original pitch by Robert Kirkman. The film stars Nicholas Hoult as Renfield, a henchman to Count Dracula who decides to leave his line of work after falling in love. Nicolas Cage, Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, and Adrian Martinez co-star. The film is scheduled to be released on April 14, 2023, by Universal Pictures.
That’s quite the casting lineup! But can Renfield take off in an April slot that isn’t traditionally the place for horror? If they can, it’s all roses for the world’s most famous vampire and the studio portraying him.
