A new report claims that Prey director Dan Trachtenberg will be directing a new Predator film, which is currently going by the title Badlands.

Variety reports the film will be set in the future. No other plot details were shared.
The fact that the film take place in the future is in contrast to the most recent Predator film, Prey. It was set in the 18th century in the Great Plains and followed actress Amber Midthunder, who played a female Comanche warrior named Naru. The film saw Naru face off against various wildlife, French explorers, and ultimately a Predator.
The film originally premiered at San Diego Comic-Con before it was released exclusively on Hulu in the United States. According to aggregator Reelgood, the film was reportedly the most watched program the week of August 12th, the week after it released on Hulu. Whip Media claimed it was the most watched film in the United States in the 3 days after it debuted on Hulu.

The Predator franchise originally began on the big screen back in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers in a film directed by John McTiernan. According to The-Numbers, the film grossed $59.7 million domestically and another $38.5 million internationally for a global gross of $98.2 million.
There are seven films in total in the franchise with two of them being a crossover with the Alien franchise. The entire franchise has grossed $741.1 million globally at the box office. The last film to be released into theaters was 2018’s The Predator. It only grossed $159.4 million globally.

The films typically depict an extraterrestrial species known as the Predators, who hunt humans and other species for sport.
The Predator creatures are known for their advanced technology, including their iconic camouflage and shoulder-mounted energy weapons.

As for Trachtenberg his resume is quite slim. Aside from Prey, he previously directed the 2016 film 10 Cloverfield Lane. He’s also directed a number of single episodes of TV series including The Boys and Black Mirror.
He’s slated to direct an episode of Netflix’s upcoming Stranger Things season.
