Talk about a day full of rumors. Overlord DVD is reporting on a number of rumors about Lucasfilm, many of which are matching up with what I have been hearing separately. While I cannot corroborate each and every rumor being reported by Overlord DVD, there are some pieces of information that appear to be matching up:
- Rian Johnson is completely divorced from any ongoing work at Lucasfilm, even far down the road.
- The High Republic is such a horrible failure that it may be struck from cannon.
- Kennedy has essentially no power remaining at Lucasfilm with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni taking full creative control over Lucasfilm.
- The Acolyte series has been delayed and may ultimately be totally shelved.
Again, these are rumors, but there appears to be quite a number of disconnected sources all hearing the same things.
Of course, all this comes on the heels of Kathleen Kennedy losing Patty Jenkins as a director for the last remaining Star Wars theatrical release on Disney’s calendar. That project is now officially delayed indefinitely, and all but dead. This objective diminishing of Kennedy’s power has led to great speculation regarding her current status at The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm.
As for what we’re working on tracking down here at That Park Place, my main goal is to find out what the situation is with Kennedy’s current contract. It’s all but certain she’s received a private extension, but what are the details? How long is the extension? Is there a terminating clause once a replacement is determined for Lucasfilm? All of these details are important, as Kennedy appears no more than a figurehead over everything other than Indy 5 (where she continues to be an involved executive producer).
