Director Robert Eggers is proving unstoppable with his roster of films. He’s already announced his next project—a werewolf movie!
An exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Nosferatu director Robert Eggers is already working on his next project. He has already written the script and Focus Features will be teaming up with him again bring it to the screen.

They aim to release the film to theaters by Christmas of 2026.
What We Know So Far
The movie will be a werewolf story set in 13th Century England, featuring Middle English and Old English dialogue true to the era. THR claims there will be translations and annotations for those unfamiliar with these old dialects.
If true, it explains film title’s spelling: “Werwulf.” Old English spelling is drastically different from the modern dialect, after all.
While most other details are scarce, THR confirmed that Eggers has decided not to shoot Werwulf in black and white. Conjecture would suggest that it will be a dark and gritty film, like many of Eggers’ previous works with historical settings.
The most recent of these works was Nosferatu, a remake of the iconic silent film from 1922. This movie was proof that remakes can be good, if done by people who care.

Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgård and Lily Rose-Depp brought their characters to life with haunting efficiency. Nosferatu recently won several Critics Awards and has been nominated for some Oscars. All of these achievements are very much deserved. It’s also the highest-grossing film of Eggers’ career, with $166.4 million worldwide and counting on a $50 million budget.
Robert Eggers Shares his Thoughts
Given his success in the genre, it’s no surprise Eggers doesn’t want to work on modern day, contemporary films. Another article from The Hollywood Reporter stated that Robert Eggers said he has absolutely no plans or intentions to make a movie with current-day technology and motifs.
When asked why, he said: “The idea of having to photograph a car makes me ill. And the idea of photographing a cellphone is just death. And to make a contemporary story you have to photograph a cellphone—it’s just how life is—so no.”
In other words, Eggers just wants to do his own thing. This mindset has become increasingly rare in Hollywood these days, so it’s good to see a director choosing to stay true to his vision.

Eggers is also going to write and direct a sequel to the 1986’s Labyrinth. Deadline reports that he’s already signed the deal, though further details are currently unknown. If true, it will be difficult finding someone who can recreate David Bowie’s iconic Goblin King.
Regardless, Robert Eggers has proven a master of the horror genre. It will be interesting to see what else he has in store. Perhaps Universal Studios should considered working with him to revive their monsters through the Dark Universe.
