Rumor: A New Wreck It Ralph Attraction Coming to Tomorrowland?

Maybe Stitch has truly, and finally, escaped. A new rumor says that a popular video game character may be heading into Tomorrowland.

Please note that we cannot independently corroborate this rumor. Note that this is strictly a rumor article reporting on information coming from other sites.

The space inside what once was Alien Encounter has been vacated for a while now. Stith’s Great Escape had been there for years and years, mostly dormant, and it was not a great shock that the experience had been dormant. Guests had found the chili dog artificial smell pumped into their faces to be nauseating. Stitch jumping on shoulder restraints was also considered by some to be uncomfortable. All in all, the concept was poorly conceived and was a shoehorned in as a replacement without replacing much of the infrastructure. As a result, Stitch was always sort of doomed to fail.

So there’s a rather large area now available in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom in Disney World for new attraction space. There have been some discussions as to what might go there but it’s definitely been an afterthought for Disney Imagineers…

… or so we thought.

According to WDWNT writer, Katie Francis, there are some indicators floating around out there that a new Wreck It Ralph attraction may be announced at D23 for the space. According to Ms. Francis, the attraction may also feature some sort of game controller that would allow participants in the ride/show to have an impact on the experience (i.e. interactivity). While that sounds like a really cool idea, it’s hard to imagine how that could scale up without having people all looking at individual screens. If they can pull it off, I’m all for it!

Will we finally hear news about the Wreck-It-Ralph replacement for Stitch’s Great Escape? Permits were filed and construction began in 2020. Merchant of Venus, the shop at the attraction’s exit, has been closed and removed from listings for nearly as long. If it’s been greenlighted to resume, there’s a good possibility we’ll hear about it at D23.

Now as for whether or not this rumor is legit, it may well be. But having talked with other writers at That Park Place, I’m not sure we’re very enthusiastic about what might on in the space. Unfortunately, the design of the interior is quite limiting in what can go in… and that means the new attraction is likely to be unique to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom — unable or unlikely to be cloned in other Disney Parks. That may mean Imagineers could have a tight budget. In the Chapek era, unique attractions that can’t be taken to other parks are often looked down upon.

So let us know what you think about this rumor. Would you be excited for a Wreck It Ralph attraction in that space? Let us know in the comments below and make sure to keep checking out That Park Place for all the latest news that should be fun!
