New rumors suggest that the Affection Section, the petting zoo located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, may close later this spring. The Affection Section is part of Rafiki’s Planet Watch and offers guests the opportunity to interact with domesticated animals. It is also the only petting zoo in the Disney World parks.
As of publication, Walt Disney World has not confirmed that the attraction will permanently close.
The Affection Section operates within Rafiki’s Planet Watch and can be reached by the Wildlife Express Train from the Harambe area of the park. The petting zoo features animals such as goats, sheep, pigs, and other livestock. Disney animal care staff supervise guest interactions and provide basic information about animal care and welfare.

Cast Members working in the area have told guests for weeks that the Affection Section will close in the near future. These reports note that the attraction’s published operating hours currently extend only through mid-March 2026, which has contributed to speculation about its status.
Context: Planned Changes at Conservation Station
The discussion about the petting zoo comes as Disney prepares changes within Conservation Station, which also sits inside Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Disney has confirmed a Bluey-themed experience for the area. The experience is scheduled to open in Summer 2026 and will feature characters from the animated television series Bluey.

Public records such as permits and casting activity suggest the Bluey experience will include interactive and educational elements. Cast members will lead kids on games based on the TV series. Disney has not explained how much space the project will require or how it will affect nearby offerings.
Some have speculated that the Bluey experience will replace the Affection Section. This currently remains unconfirmed but makes sense given what we know about Disney’s preparations for the interactive experience.
Significance to Guests
The Affection Section is currently the only petting zoo experience available at Walt Disney World. If it were to close, guests would lose one of the few attractions that allows direct contact with animals. Families with young children often visit the area as part of a broader educational experience focused on animals and conservation.

While some guests have expressed concern about the potential loss of the petting zoo, others note that Animal Kingdom offers a wide range of animal exhibits and behind-the-scenes experiences, though these do not involve direct contact.
At present, the Affection Section remains open and accessible to guests who choose to visit Rafiki’s Planet Watch. No closure date has been confirmed.
What’s Next?
Guests interested in visiting the Affection Section are encouraged to check official Walt Disney World resources for the most current operating hours.
