Rumor: Bob Chapek and Disney Board to Moderate Thru Company Policies

July 8, 2022  ·
  WDW Pro

Changes may be coming soon for a Disney Company that once wanted to moderate away from divisive political situations. Is Bob Chapek ready to alter policy to achieve his goals?

The following article is distinctly rumor. It is not to be taken as absolute fact nor as objective reporting. See WDW Pro’s track record on rumors to determine for yourself the potential validity of these unverified, uncorroborated comments.

According to multiple sources familiar with The Walt Disney Company, the previously planned efforts to moderate the corporation through new official policies is still a-go. The prior changes were supposed to go through in April of this year but were indefinitely canceled after the uproar over Florida legislation responses and the Disney Walkout movement. Now, with all of that in the rear view mirror and Bob Chapek renewed for years to come as CEO (complete with $20 million bonuses each year), the company is reportedly ready to push for those moderating policies via changes expected to come either late this year or early next.

The main thing that seems to be coming through from discussions I’ve had is that a plan was put in place during the Board’s week-long meetings in Orlando, Florida. Though the specifics of that alleged plan remain mostly obscured, some sources are saying that the Board wants to return to a prior strategy now that the winds have shifted in the mood of consumers towards Disney.

Sources that I have spoken to expect a company-wide announcement to take place either in November or February, depending on factors that could shift he date. Another source claims it could be slightly later, perhaps in March of 2023. No reason was given as to why it would be held up. Such a policy shift would be coupled with the new Disney pillars presented at the beginning of this year. In particular, moderating away from divisive material in family entertainment would relate to the dictate that the company cease working against its own audience.

Additionally, I now believe that Chapek and the Board intended to make more personnel changes intended to assist in quelling dissent and pushback about the company’s need to moderate. This is in line with what I was reporting a month ago:

Don’t be surprised if this isn’t the last big firing from Bob Chapek. It seems that he feels confident that his job is secure and now it’s time to start emptying out the bad actors at the company (in his opinion, not ours) who are potentially insubordinating the fiduciary goals of the company. He weathered the storm, he’s seeing Disney’s polling numbers plummet. Now, after people have gone on to talk about other things, it’s time to start taking out people who may not be very well-known to the average public, but who may have been behind much of what was going on.

The Disney Civil War

As for how this policy change will impact operations inside Disney, sources believe that Kareem Daniel will be empowered to help curtail potentially damaging material at a greater level. In the wake of the Disney Walkout movement, the company has not been censoring material that could damage its revenue potentials. Such was the case with Lightyear. Furthermore, another rumor we are working to follow up on is claiming that Jon Favreau may be brought in as a creative liaison between the corporate management of Disney and the various studios’ management tiers. Others may also be drafted into a panel to assist in listening to studio desires while also filtering content in such a way as to make it accessible to the broadest possible demographics. In particular, I am hearing that Disney leadership at the highest level is concerned its major studios have stopped working towards broad appeal in order to push less financially viable world views. Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Disney Animation Studios are all under the spotlight, according to sources I have chatted with.

In signs of positivity moving forward, Disney is working, allegedly, to sign major actors to multi-movie deals with the MCU in order to bring together a huge multiverse extravaganza. And according to Hollywood writer, Kamran Pasha, he is hearing from private messages out of Disney employees that CEO Bob Chapek is reassuring executives that he intends to move the company away from political and ideological sticky situations.

Disney is still in a huge mess. But an official policy change that would enforce political neutrality inside the company would be a huge step in the right direction. It looks like we’ll be getting that after all.

One possible answer to the delay in announcements for later in the year would be events that happen in November every two years. Perhaps Disney Corp is aware of the winds of change and want to set their sails in the appropriate direction.

Company policy can’t make artistic decisions and better storylines. Creative visionaries often requires single minded dictators. Firing is the only way plus ensuring every executive takes fiduciary responsibility as if they currently aren’t.

Can’t he just ditch all the “wokers” in the Everglades kinda like what the Guardians did to Thor… but with Gators! None the less, I wish Bob good luck and swift speed in his endeavors. This little “chess game” he has going is about as exciting as re-watching “The Voyage Of The Mimi” as an adult.

Favreau as some kind of creative czar of Disney is such a terrible idea………….. not everything from him is good and some like Iron Man 2 is pretty disastrous. He has good intentions but not the best instinct.

He’s done a good job with his content in Star Wars.

Yet Book of Boba Fett was a disaster. He wrote Boba Fett into a dead end by trying to make him a crime lord which goes against what fans would have hoped from a Boba Fett movie/series. People want to see Boba Fett as a badass lone wolf, not as a leader of criminals.

Well that was more of Robert Rodriguez making it look Saturday morning cartoon style. Him being a leader of criminals sounds interesting since he can do his own crime fighting on other worlds as an idea. Oh and TimQ, if you think that getting rid of Favreau or Filoni is what will be the better option for SW over Boba Fett, then saboteurs shouldn’t call themselves SW fans in my eyes.

A crime lord is not a crime fighter or a hero……… it is laughable to suggest Boba Fett can become one by being a criminal. You are not going to get Godfather from Disney and it is shocking for Favreau/Filoni to not realize that.

That’s not a better option, there’s no actual option. They just keep blowing it. It’s Disney Star Wars. They are unable to put out quality Star Wars when it’s Star Woke.

@Masterman It could work as long as Rodriguez isn’t involved and even Temeura has stated he wants the bad ass version of Boba back and unlike Kennedy, Favreau is a lot more open and can rectify some mistakes. Hell I think when Favreau has more time to focus on a Season 2 of Boba Fett and after Mandalorian is finished, then we can see some improvements (Which includes directing some episodes).

@TimQ And as for you, that sounds like trash talk into hoping Star Wars is actually dead. That or hating the guy because he’s not retconning the Sequels or going back to the EU. One or all of those things is where this unfounded rant is coming from.

Alex: So what? They have the power. I don’t. Retconning back Star Wars is no longer feasible. They put out so much trash that it’s irredeemable. It no longer matters. If you enjoy it, you’re part of a smaller minority group of fans. Good luck.

Boba Fett was terrible. He’s not going to save Star Wars.

I really hope this happens. My guess is the reason he still kept Kennedy and kept the kiss on Lightyear was only because he wanted to be on the Board’s good graces to be re-elected and then start changing things internally. We’ll see what happens though.

Out of curiosity Pro, what was the 13% that you said that never came true? You do say you have an 87% credibility with leaks/rumors.

I’m so proud of Bob Chapek, ending this terrible political agenda. It has to end, if they want Disney to survive.

When I told this to my dad, he says, “Well, they’re too late anyway!” Even though what he says is true, but Disney is going to eventually change and end that political and ideology agenda nonesense.

Bob and the board better get that policy change soon to end this political and ideological agenda, or this will continue at Disney and may go bankrupt. But, of course, I know Disney will survive.
