This rumor comes from Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming who reports, “According to sources who spoke with Insider Gaming under the condition of anonymity, workers were called into a ‘Business Update’ Zoom call yesterday, where it was announced that their contracts would not be renewed.”

As for why the contracts were not renewed, Henderson reported, “During the call, it was said that the decision not to renew contracts wasn’t due to the team’s performance but to a ‘restructuring of the business.’”

Back in February EA CEO Andrew Wilson announced the company had undergone a restructure over the past year noting, “Over the last year, we have organized our company to further empower our creative leaders to deliver our strategic priorities of entertaining massive online communities, telling blockbuster stories, and harnessing the power of community in and around our games.”

Wilson would later state, “We are also sunsetting games and moving away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry. This greater focus allows us to drive creativity, accelerate innovation, and double down on our biggest opportunities — including our owned IP, sports, and massive online communities — to deliver the entertainment players want today and tomorrow.”

“Lastly, we are streamlining our company operations to deliver deeper, more connected experiences for fans everywhere that build community, shape culture, and grow fandom,” he said.

Wilson then revealed this restructuring would affect around 5% of the company’s work force, “In this time of change, we expect these decisions to impact approximately 5 percent of our workforce.”

The game is still performing much better than when it initially launched on Steam in November 2020, where it’s peak hit 117,320 concurrent players.
