A new rumor claims that Rockstar Games and its parent company Take Two Interactive have delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI to the middle of 2026.

X user Billsyliamgta states, “EXCLUSIVE: GTA VI has been internally delayed by Rockstar Games and they’re already decided on the early to mid 2026 release window. PC is planned for around 12 – 18 months after the console launch.”
He added, “This information comes from multiple devs across two studios.”

He did share in a follow-up, “Look if I’ve been foul played here and that’s a BIG if, I apologise. You all know I wouldn’t tweet anything unless I was very confident.”
“Nothing malicious or spread of misinformation was intended. Let’s just wait it out now and see if any other news outlets come forward,” he added.

Interestingly, Billsyliamgta had previously questioned the veracity of a rumor claiming the game was going to be delayed back in May. He wrote on X, “My take on this is how has GTA VI exactly been delayed?”
He added, “‘Rockstar announces it’s coming 2025 with Trailer 1. Take-Two says it’s coming Fall 2025.’ = delayed? Yes may have been delayed internally but that’s different.”

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who previously worked at Kotaku, indicated he spoke to six Rockstar employees and they informed him that the game was not being delayed.
Schreier wrote on X, “The internet (and my DMs) blew up this weekend over a rumor that GTA VI is delayed. Good news is that six Rockstar employees all told me they have not heard of any delay. Bad news: it’s a big, ambitious game and could very well slip! Too much time left to say anything definitive.”
He added in a subsequent post, “I want to be very clear: Six staff told me they weren’t *informed* of a delay. For all I know, Rockstar’s executive team could have decided months ago to delay GTA VI without telling the company. But the lack of internal announcement suggests that the Twitter rumor was nonsense.”

In the game’s first trailer it was announced the game would be arriving sometime in 2025.
In Take-Two Interactive’s most recent earnings release in August, it revealed the game would arrive in Fall 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
